Wow 2 years now and still not done lol married life and kids have forced me to stay low on extra items. Anyway still in need of a motherboard, cpu and ram.

looking at either of these CPU's

I'd go quad core, if only because it will clock faster. Although really, you're going to want to look at the new i5's if you are still looking to do a build.

and throw some ddr3 in the beast and let it run.

There isnt a huge reason to buy AMD when the i5's are about 180$, offer you decent gaming without a GPU, and the QuickSync logic built into the chips makes most tasks with video complete faster than with any discrete GPU.

The GPU in the i5 is awful. Worse than even a $60 discrete GPU. It also stutters in video playback and can't do DX11.

And QuickSync only works for transcoding, and only in a handful of mediocre applications that are QS-aware.

The i5 is a nice CPU, no doubt, but for virtually none of the reasons you provided.

Eh, I was trying to help, not throw out the technical data. The graphics are definitely nicer than any onboard graphics i've ever dealt with before, I never had a blu ray video stutter on me, and I cant think of any reason to DX11 a low end GPU that cant really DX10. Surprisingly I could run L4D1 on it, thus earning it the rating 'decent' instead of 'horrid'.

Quicksync was a total beast when it came to putting videos onto ipod touch and iphones, which isnt out of the question for many users. Also Mp3 encoding was pretty fast as well.

OK got my RAM, Processor and MOBO in so those were the last parts. Now I have never put a computer together is there any good sites I can go to and get some tips on what order to do things?

If you have a backplate on your CPU cooler, mount that, then put the CPU in, mobo in case, heatsink on the CPU (with thermal paste), RAM, GPU, PSU into case and connect everything, HDD whenever convenient, ODD whenever convenient, power up, install fresh copy of windows and latest drivers from the manufacturers' websites. I think that about covers it.

My case only came with 4 standoffs to mount mobo to and I didn't see any in the mobo box is this common

OK having some issues. I thought I had everything hooked up right go and plug it in turn on power supply and get nothing try power button on tower nothing. Is there a way to check the power supply or any ideas what I might try. Power supply 20 pin +4 pin to mother board. I have an additional 8 pin and 4 pin but don't know what to do with them?
