Modded BIOS with latest SATA??

edited September 2009 in Science & Tech
HI all,
Just bought a new HDD, a 1TB monster (well, it's a big step up for me at least!), and the damn thing doesn't get recognised by my BIOS. After much googling, I came across similar problems discussed on these forums.

During the SATA drive detection screen it freezes. It shows the drive model but the cursor sits blinking where the drive size should appear. I've tried setting the drive to SATA150 manually (with a jumper on the drive). I've plugged in the drive once the OS was up and running, and it is recognises ok. It looks to me that I need to update the SATA firmware in my BIOS. Problem being, the mobo manufactures haven't done a firmware update since 2005 (and that one didn't fix the prob).

I read through this thread: http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20543.
Unfortunately it's 4.5 years old, so rather than try to resurrect a dead thread, I thought I'd try a fresh one. Would someone here please be able to mod a BIOS for me with the latest Sil3112 drivers?
Looks like Spinner and EQuito were more than happy to mod a BIOS for a newb, hopefully someone is still around who is :)

I've got two motherboards, which I may switch the HDD between, so I'd appreciate if we could kill two birds with one stone.

The motherboards are:
Asus A7N8x-Deluxe (PCB rev 2.0)
Gigabyte GA-8PE800 Ultra
Both use the Silicon Image Sil3112 chipset.

Thanks in advance if someone can do that for me.
Cheers,
Ian

Is the SATA port driven directly off the motherboard or via Sil3112 chipset? If it's the chipset, look for a driver update for it.

I use the built-in motherboard SATA ports in both cases.
    I don't have any PCI-SATA boards.

Bump? Surely someone can do a quick mod for me? I'll be your friend... :)
