Youa ll sure? I can get into Windows Update, but when I try to DL anything it gives me errors... I just did a second reformat just to be sure it wasn't on my end, and still nothing.

    WTF!

Never even heard of it Thrax, I don't have it.

This is Windows 2000 Pro SP4...

Here's a pic of what it looks like that I get....

Actually, now that I think about it, I do recognize it, but it must be in an update.

Seeing as how I cannot update though, it seems rather useless.

    It's a windows service, as I said.

Check for it. It comes with NT, 2000, XP, 2003. Everyone has it.

EVERYONE with an NT-based system HAS IT.

If you do NOT have it, time for a repair install.

    It must exist.

I have done 2 formats and reinstalls... it does this both times.
  • RWBRWB Icrontian

OK, I just reformatted and reinstalled.

I have not done a THING yet, no software or even video drivers or any updates...

YET, there is _no_ Cryptographic whatever service on my system.

I have no clue what the hell is going on!

    This one highlighted.

If you don't have it, then you have a bad installation. If you keep getting the same error, then potentially your installation media is shot, your overclock is too high, you have a memory problem.. basically all the problems that cause a bad installation of Windows.

Do you have another CD you can try/use?

Try updating your internet explorer to the latest version off Microsofts site. See if that makes a difference.
  • RWBRWB Icrontian

No overclocking or tweaking of any kind.

I have done the SP4 update and even MS Explorer updates too, yet it doesn't come out. I'll try another disk. This is crap :(

Just did ANOTHER format and reinstall, WITH A HERRING!

I used a completly new CD(thinking, "thank God I made backups of Windows 2000"), still the EXACT same problem.

This makes NO damned since in this god forsaken planet! I mean, one corrupted CD is one thing, but having a second unused and clean CD and even the original disk ALL being corrupted AND in the exact same way is not ****ing going to happen.

Could it POSSIBLY be that this is Microsoft's doing? That after 3 or 4 years of owning this very licence, that it kills the update service cuase it is no longer supported or something?

Well microsofts site says that my date and time are ****ed up, so I checked it, but I saw nothing wrong with it...

Then it finnally dawned on me... for the past couple days I have been thinking this date is screwed up, but I couldn't figure out how. THEN I remembered my birthday in a couple days and a phone call with my mother on the day of week it was on and I saw it. For some dumb ass reason I was thinking it was still 2003! GOD I HATE THAT CRAP!

Damned new years... why's it always busting my chops, hell I forgot my own birthday last year! :P It appears to be fixed now... it was the god damned date the entire time!? That is lame.

You sir.. need to unplug :Pwned: by yourself :D

In all seriousness, glad you got it working.. but Ive got Win2k boxes here (im at work).. and they have that service. Thats just plain wierd  unless it's a domain requirement.. but I significantly doubt it.

You really should have it and it is on my XP Pro as well. Since the datew screwed it up before and it works after the date tells me that your "CRYTOGRAPHIC SERVICES" is working quite well. There must be some other reason you are not seeing it.

RWB, try this link and look for the sections that pertain to Windows 2000 http://www.updatexp.com/0x800A138F.html

"Cryptograhpic Services" appears as a system service under Windows XP only. Under Windows 2000 and NT 4 the equivalent functionality is scattered about kernel mode device drivers and associated user mode API functions. In other words, it won't appear in the "Services" listing provided by the Control Panel or the MMC.
