Thrax, SP4 and up have it, but original reinstall with WindowsUpdate not working will get you SP1 typically or SP2 if you got a rereleased CD(unless the thread starter managed to get a full install SP4 CD recently, those are out and about). I know SP1 and SP2 for Win2K have it not as one service, and 4 did as Microsoft found one unified cryptographic service was better and retrofitted it into 2000 about the time XP was first released.
Actually, Cryptographics is not time pure thing, it is encyphering and decyphering of things like passwords also. But, it uses time for aprt of the hash gen that encodes, and can be used for program signature generation at install tiem also. Thus time screwed up can do this to installs and cryptographics are affected by bad timestamps at install time....
AND WindowsUpdate uses timestamping to track also. What can happen with the new WindowsUpdate, is this: you reinstall, reregister, but WindowsUpdate uses first install date sometimes with 2000 and XP. I had to go into the WindowsUpdate Catalog and regrab a few things when I reloaded XP a while back, and this thread starter might want to see if a big SP3 and SP4 for 2000 is waiting in catalog and apply them or it if so(if it offers SP2, 3, and 4, apply in SP number order, please), you can in fact do this now and not have to hunt all the heck over Microsoft's KB or download center for it....
I installed 2k once and couldnt get 2k to update. The problem was the date in windows didnt match the actual date. I changed the date and it all of a sudden worked.
I found that out by actually going thru the help on windows update. It helped for once.
Not sure if thats it but I got a similar error from what I recall.
Well microsofts site says that my date and time are ****ed up, so I checked it, but I saw nothing wrong with it...
Then it finnally dawned on me... for the past couple days I have been thinking this date is screwed up, but I couldn't figure out how. THEN I remembered my birthday in a couple days and a phone call with my mother on the day of week it was on and I saw it. For some dumb ass reason I was thinking it was still 2003! GOD I HATE THAT CRAP!
Damned new years... why's it always busting my chops, hell I forgot my own birthday last year! :P It appears to be fixed now... it was the god damned date the entire time!? That is lame.
I did fix it guys... but what would be great is if someone has a Windows 2000 Pro CD with SP4 already in it(for me to DL). I bought my Windows 2000 Pro CD RETAIL for $330 when it first came out from Office Depot(how do I even remember that? lol) So it is PRE SP1. It would be nice to have a SP4 CD, tried making one myself, but it wouldn't work right for some damned reason and I just hate having to go through the same process again and again.
I have a Ghost Floppy(yeah I reinstalled my FDD cuase now I actually need it lol) so once everything is set up finally, I'll be able to do all this much easier.

But that would be illegal sooooooooooooo. Try doing a google search for "slipstream service pack" and follow the instructions to create your very own win2k & sp4 cd based on your very own win2k cd I am sure you really own and the service pack of your choice you can download for free from microsuxs.
It takes like two commands.... TWO COMMANDS..... to make the cd your self and thus not implicate your fellow forum members here into breaking the law. I am sure you see the problem now right?
Hopefully anyway...
How is it illegal if I have a LEGAL key? It is simply the media I need... I have seen on legit sites MEDIA CD's being sold without keys... but they still cost like something less than $100 bucks.
I did use the google search to find what I did already. Plus I don't think you need the attitude, and if you meant no attitude... then my bad.
You downloading a full cd is illegal. Or you would see it on all the articles detailing how to slipstream your own cd.. But they can't. As its illegal and Microsuxs bust folks that break their sacred covenat. Like out of buisness dude..... Adn s-m does not allow illegal stuff either...
Two commands... Thats all. you need help? Its there for the asking but..... its illegal for us to allow you to download a full cd. Trust me...
Again lets start over... You have a licenced cd right? You have a service pack right? You want them combined right?????
Two commands. Thats all. Three if you want to produce the ISO ready to burn.
Glad to help you in any LEGAL endeaver. You get the cd and service pack and I'll gladly help ya combine them.
But what you you asked for was ILLEGAL. You must possess the software not a "key".
OK that's fine I guess, I will just have to try one more time. The problem I had was with booting up, it just wouldn't ever do it.
MS does suck, and it is lame of them to allow us to Slipstream a _new_ CD rather than allow us to use a newer CD from someone else. Either way it goes, they make no money off it.

Like you, I had trouble with my first few attempts. I had good luck with this method.
I don't see why MS couldn't let us exchange CD's for a small fee. Send back your old one + $10 and receive the updated disc. When you think about it, not offering this service punishes early adopters.
I went to the store and bought W98 the day it was released. I didn't buy XPpro until last fall, sticking with W2K in the interim. I have come to like "mature" products (software & hardware) - let someone else be the guinea pig.
I am more then willing to help you. With your media.... You want help booting? All you got to do is ask. We cannot distribute the media but I can help you in any way to manipulate your own media. And the boot part is easy so just holler if you need help.
And if EVER you think something is borderline legal maybe... email me and do not post it in a wonderful public forum like Short-Media.com and I can probbaly help there also. (grin)
But don't endanger short-media and their great website.
Well I'll ask for help later... cuase right now my system is "running" which is all I need for class, but I have too much to do this week and doubt I'll even get a chance anytime soon.
On a similar note - is there any way to download the entirety of SP1 for WinXP from Microsoft and burn it to a CD myself (similar to the dev version of DX9) to make reinstalls quicker? I had to reformat/reinstall OS's on about 4 PCs in the past 2 weeks, and I'm tired of waiting for SP1 to download! I need to get SP1 by itself though, since each copy of WinXP belongs to a different person...

GHoosdum, you can also go into the Windows Update Catalog and once you have told it what XP you have, grab full archives. SP1 will FTP that way, as an archive, also.
The nice thing about the download center, though, is if you tell it you want System Administrator archives, that is all it will give you. AND you can then grab on any box and burn to CD a set of what you need including security patches. Making one legal backup for your own use is legal, redisting not as Microsoft often tweaks sec patches that do not take right on some boxes and sometimes does not renumber them-- thus old things that only partly work can get floating on web or on CDs. I have used the sec patch CD to update boxes, but always also run WindowsUpdate after to pick up anything that was rereleased or had not hit the download center indexes yet.
So, when done with the SP1A load you might run WindowsUpdate(after a restart, see what follows) and with the admin installers also note sometimes they do not tell you to restart when you SHOULD restart when done-- reason is to make sure stuff is fully commited, sometimes folks get partial SP loads when working from admin archives and not restarting. I would restart immediately after a successful admin install of a service pack, period. On any Windows box.

Let us know if it helps!

John.
In IE, goto Tools - Internet Options - Click the "Languages" button toward bottom of screen.
Make sure ther is a language is in the box that comes up, if nothing is there then "Add" your location, its usually the country you live in.
In example: Mine says "English (United States) [en-us]".
Hope this helps!
