Microsoft Extends Support for 98/98SE/ME

edited January 2004 in Science & Tech
Good news for many, if this report is correct.

[blockquote]"Microsoft has extended support for Windows 98, Windows 98 SE and Windows ME.

The software giant has extended support for the operating systems until 30 June, 2006. During that time paid over-the-phone support will be available, and "critical" security issues will be reviewed and "appropriate steps" taken." I just hope they keep at least the old updates around. Just in case I wanted to install 98 on a small HD for a folding rig or something.

No joke. Ever try to find Win95 updates for restoring computers that can't handle 98 or better or setting up a DOS gaming box? It's nearly impossible to figure out which ones you need, since there's no tool to scan your machine for updates. You just have to download everything off the Win95 page and hope your computer can take it.

or better yet, the updates that they have removed from the site.
I know that they want them to die, but at least don't take updates away.
Now, if I could only find the ie5.5 packs....

Well, let's see. It's now 2004 and my parents are still using Windows 95! :wtf:
