Cyber defender removal

edited October 2009 in Science & Tech
I purchased cyber defender's software package for $249.99. It's not worth it and my computer still runs slow. I have the following questions:

How do I remove it from my computer?
Has my computer and personal information(passwords, banking info, etc.) been compromised?
How do I get my money back?

I would appreciate any assistance you can provide. Thanks.

Can anyone lend a hand? Does anyone even know what Cyber Defender is?

    Cyberdefender

Have you tried the ordinary removal means: Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/(your program)?

If that doesn't work, go into Safe Mode, and try it there. If you don't know how to enter Safe Mode, just ask, and we'll show you.

How do you get your money back? If they don't have a money back guarantee, good luck to you.

When you do get the software out of your system, let us know, and we'll give you advice for freeware that is first rate. There is no reason for a home user to buy anti-virus and anti-malware software these days.

    Is this what you bought?

    https://www.cyberdefender.com/universal/?affl=cdsite_ultimate3

    ?

if so, try the add/remove programs, like Leo said..

I really doubt you can get your money back; there is almost never a money-back guarantee for software, and once you install it, that's it.

That is an absolutely outrageous price for "security" software. I would call the BBB and file a complaint if they don't give you your money back, personally.

You are not the first person who has problems with Cyber Defender. This software was once classified as "potentially unwanted", but now it is not in that list anymore as far as I know. Well, they claim that Cyber Defender can be removed easily using "Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs".

    Download Avast! Home Edition: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Completely free, and it's one of the best antivirus packages on the market. It's better than anything you can buy in a store. Seriously.

(To other nerds: Yes, I know Avira has slightly better performance, but I don't want powersurge to have to jump through hoops to disable the nag screen).
