An unlocked Snapdragon-based HTC Android device running an unmodified ROM could be very compelling, but I doubt it will have much impact on the Android market at large.
A smartphone of that caliber would easily cost north of $600, which is quite enough to scare most people into accepting a carrier subsidy and the limitations that sometimes go with it.
Sounds excellent. It'll be nice to put some serious pressure on the iPhone, which to me still seems unphased by android's encroachment on their territory.
I love my G1, and I'm totally sold on Android. If I can afford it, I'd be really tempted to buy a slick Snapdragon-based phone. I just doubt I'd be able to without the carrier subsidy.
I'm just like Garg. I love my G1, but am more in love with Android. The G1's processor is starting to show its age in certain apps on the new version of Android, but the platform itself has a great deal of potential.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. Now that I'm hooked, I'd consider upgrading to something snappier. I could probably hold out until my contract is up and I get a discount either from T-mo or a different carrier, though.
I hate to burst the Rumor bubble here, but this is HIGHLY unlikely to be true. Kumar and Moritz seem to have a history of being wrong and/or making shit up. I'm inclined to believe the Phandroid article about this, mostly because I've been reading that site for quite a while and they are usually right on about these things.

But will it be enough to make me switch sides?
I'm also looking foward to see which would prove to be the better mobile OS for the Snapdragon- Windows vs Android.
