I got an email saying they boosted our download speed. I used to settle in around 210k or 220k on a big download with a good connection. Tried this morning and it settled in at 365k and started at over 1.0mb on a download from adobe. This is sweet. I been bitchin for two days as they had slowdowns and outages at night late and now I know why at least.

Most of the cable companies are boosting the download speed. 3Mbps seems to be the industry standard now, although I know Cablevision in NY is offering 6000/1000. RoadRunner is supposed to be jacking up the upload speeds to 512, but right now we're getting 3000/384.

    You guys are lucky.
My provider is upgrading me and other customers from 256Kbps to 512Kbps.
    Upload remains at 128 Kbps.
I will get upgraded sometime before march.
    It is slooow.

This is broadband in Denmark *sigh*

You can have a 2Mbps D/L but it is very costly.

RR here in Houston went to 3Mbps late last year and we had slowdowns for probably a week before things were no longer turtle-like. Things still aren't as good as they were, though; meaning, the service isn't as reliable. I'd go back to 2Mbps if the service would be as reliable as it had been. The last 2.5 weeks have been really bad. It isn't that the service goes out or anything, but downloads go incredibly slow and often timeout and web-pages often won't load. Even DNS is affected. RR really screwed up something.

3Mbps/256k Adelphia here(althou upload never passes 144k)...u can upgrade to 4Mbps/512k, but its not worth the cost/bandwidth.

    from dslreports.com...
Your download speed : 3294948 bps, or 3294 kbps.
    A 402.2 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 129891 bps, or 129 kbps.

Um, RR is AT&T based, right????? Well, AT&T Broadband are being cut into Comcast. So what you are seeing is internetwork cut-in teethings. Give it a week more, you should be back to normal as the dynamic routing settles in. I, for instance, no longer always go through:

Atlanta, Tampa, Atlanta, Washington( DC ), Houston, Dallas, Las Vegas, to get to HOTMAIL out in Glen Valley, CA area. It used to be worse, sometimes Comcast could not FIND Hotmail's servers.

See, Comcast is absorbing AT&T Broadband and the customers it had and in parts of the country still has. Part of the absorption down here means that I get about 380 KB\sec downloads via FTP-- using abrowser Comcast does not support, on an O\S Comcast does not support, but they take my money and give me throughput so I do not care about the support or the fact that they do not support my router either and do not consider its use to violate the AUP any more now that they have AT&T Broadband's infrastructure and bandwidth provision.

WEIRD, had to turn off my router's SPI limit option to get the throughput right..... :D

May in your area NS but I'm on 1mb/256k cable, and certain areas can get 2mb adsl. Still sucks that we dont get really high download speeds yet though.

I know you can get higher, but I am pointing out the fact than in lots of places you can't get higher than 512/256 if at all, and in most places (other than big cities) you can't actually get cable at all.
