UPSLynx told to try the forum to see if anyone has a solution on why my clean boot installation of Win 7 Ultimate freezes during the final stage of setup. I have done many hours of search online. The most common response was the way the HD is set up with partitions. No luck. Video card was next, only I have onboard video so I can't disable it. Weird thing is I a using the RC Win 7 presently. I did have some of the same issues but finally overcame them and it's been working great. As far as my system I have it listed on my profile. Any help would be appreciated. Dodge

I've been wondering if the primary HDD may be at fault for inturrupting the installation, but I have to admit the though is a shot in the dark.

Anyone know if a bad HDD would cause an installation freeze? Moreso, a freeze that's nearly consistent at happening at the same time?

I'd suggest trying it again and make sure you do a slow (as opposed to quick) format before you try installing it.

SUCCESS!!! Seems my older motherboard Asus P5VD2-VM SE doesn't register my WD Cavair 320gb SATA with WIN 7. Probably a driver issue. I swapped back to my smaller Maxator 80 gb IDE drive and was able to install without a problem. I am using both drives. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for letting us know dodge. I've seen an XP install hang with a SATA driver issue, but didn't think Win 7 could be fooled by it.

I had the same startup hang with Win7 on two different computers. One computers' motherboards have Intel P35 chipsets. For each computer, when the hang happened, I booted into Safe Mode then rebooted right away back into regular Windows. I don't have an explanation, just know that it worked.
