hi guys i just did a clean xp service pack 3 installion on my system and installed the mobo drivers first then when i try to install the nvida drivers for my graphics card after teh loading screen i get a black screen i waited for 20 min just to see if anything would appear but i got nothing!

i have tried many drivers the one that came with the disk and the new ones off nvidia and nothing seems to work

if i uninstall the graphics card driver ,it runs with the standard vga driver that comes with windows the computer only causing problems when i install the video driver

i just recently upgraded the mobo, power supply and cpu

here are teh specs:

1.Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 770 Socket AM2+ 7.1 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

2.Hi-Power Black 800W 14cm Blue LED Fan PSU - 20+4pin 4x SATA 4x PCI-E

3.AMD Phenom II X4 940 3GHz Socket AM2+ 6MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor

4.9800gx2 graphics card

5.4gb ram

im thinking its the graphics card itself?

im really stressed:(

Did you remember to plug the extra power cables into the graphics card? It may let you boot up without them connected, but it won't work properly with its graphics drivers if they're not plugged in.

yep i made sure they are in i can get into safe mode and it does say 9800gx2 but it wont boot up normally only way to get it to boot up normally is to get rid of the graphic driver

Sounds like there's either a problem with the graphics card itself, or something about the motherboard causing the issue. Do you have another PC you could try the graphics card in to make sure it works properly?

Omar, I just installed drivers for multiple 9800GX2s in two computers that are each running with new Windows 7 installations. I had instabilities with both computers at first, including blue screen crashes showing NV driver problems. Like you, I thought it was video card drivers problems. It was, but only indirectly. The main problem was motherboard drivers installed by Windows 7.

I can't say for sure that it will fix your problem, but here's what I recommend you try:

    • uninstall all nvidia video drivers you can find: drivers, PhysX, and Stereoscopic 3D (if installed)
    • reboot the computer and let it run with whatever drivers the operating system installs
    • download and run Driver Cleaner Pro to weed out any other Nvidia video drivers
    • download and install the latest drivers for your motherboard and operating system, specifically the chipset and SATA/RAID drivers
    • reboot again and let the OS re-recognize and register the motherboard components.
    • install the 9800GX2 drivers again

I would definitely try Leonardo's suggestion. He runs a folding farm with a lot of 9800GX2's, so I would have to guess he knows what he's talking about. ;D

ok i tried doing that but for some reason vista kept on installing 9800gx2 driver i tried using driver cleaner pro it didnt detect anything im using 1.5 maybe thats why its not and i downloaded the chipset and raid drivers when i unzip it it tells me to install ati catylist driver?? wth i went to the website and downloaded them but telling me to install ati driver?

    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=2982&ost=xp#anchor_os

so anyway ive reinstalled xp sp3 on it just the motherboard drivers with it that were in the cd but this time i havnt installed this

    5. ATI sb700/710/750 south bridge driver

could it be that the mobo isnt compatible with the graphics card

i havnt installed the graphics card driver yet waiting for you guys to reply b4 i do anything

Go ahead and install it. Its a little confusing but you are installing chipset drivers not video drivers.

At this point it would probably be a good idea to check the card in a different PC, if possible - can't hurt (will at least tell you whether the card or something about the rest of your new build is at fault).

Leonardo, any more thoughts on this? Your army of 9800GX2s speaks volumes of experience I don't have...

Having the exact same problem with my 9800gx2 and not being able to test the card itself on another comp so would like to know what the results were if ya tried it.

I don't think either of you guys' video cards are faulty. I think both your computers' registries are full of bits and pieces of different Nvidia drivers that are, for lack of a better phrase, conflicting with each other.

    - using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, remove Nvidia Physx, Nvidia video drivers, and Nvidia Control Panel (if installed). If you are required to reboot, do it. Before you reboot, go to the C:\ partition. There will be a folder named "Nvidia." Delete that folder.

On reboot, if Windows asks to install drivers, do not - select no. If Windows automatically installs video drivers, don't worry about it. Once back in Windows, run Driver Sweeper. Select the box for Nvidia video drivers. Do NOT select the box Nvidia "chipset" or motherboard drivers. If there is a box for ATI video drivers and you computer previously had an ATI video card in it, I would check that box as well. After cleaning out driver remnants reinstall the Nvidia drivers. Ensure that you have not mistakenly downloaded 64-bit drivers if your Windows is not the 64-bit version.

There are other driver cleaner tools available as well that also work. I am recommending Driver Sweeper as it has worked very well for me, removing all kinds of Nvidia drivers residue from the computer that I had no idea was there.

If after all this you still have problems, try a different drivers version. When I was running XP 32-bit, I 182.06 for months without problems on four different computers. Not saying it's the best version, just that it worked very well in my systems.

If you still have problems after all

Already tried clearing the old drivers completely away, even though the comp started doing it with the first drivers ever installed on it after few months so kinda suspected it wouldnt work.

    Hi everyone!
Has anyone seen a solution to this problem yet? Im experiencing the same issue aswell...
I read somewhere that I should try to enter the Nvidia control panel (by failsafe mode i assume) and try to deactivate the internal SLI mode, so that Im only using one of the GPU's... I will try this as soon as I get home from work today...

    Cheers!
    /Anders.
