Vista drive crashes after use on win7 system

The other day I plugged in a vista ultimate hard drive to my win7 machine to grab a file off that drive that I didn't have a backup of. Last night I needed the vista drive running; upon booting the drive when into a check disk with a ton of bad security id's it tried to fix. Eventually the OS loaded and and I went about my business, opened a program which immediately crashed. In fact every program now crashes either after opening or trying to run any part of the program, or trying to save a file from within the program.
tried reseting the security on the drive, no success.
Any ideas?

I'm thinking the security on the drive is all messed up since the win7 venture. The question becomes how to fix the security issues. (selecting the drive, right clicking > properties > security tab, added user with full control; no change)
Turn windows components on/off brings up a blank window
IE8 only crashes if you try to save a file
Quicken seems to run (haven't tried saving a file)
running repair on the OS from the DVD had no effect on the problems
I've run two computers now with Win7 installation drives and WinXP drives both in the system. I have not experienced the problem you are writing about.
after spending 90% of the day with microsoft's support and $50 we fixed the problem.
one of two things fixed the issue
either the system file checker scan or check disk
or the combination of the two fixed the problem of all the applications crashing when a file was being saved.
here is to problems being solved
from my perspective, browsing the drive while in win7 caused the problem and corruption.
good news an in-place upgrade repaired the files on the win7 drive that could not be fixed by running
I'll do the same on the vista drive when I install it in a new box. (then I'll wipe the drive and replace it with win7 64bit.
