Here is a new problem that I never seen before. My fiance has a Dell 1505 laptop with XP pro installed. over the past couple of months it has developed a problem when trying to login to the laptop. After it sits around for a while it locks itself up, which I know is normal, but the problem is after it sits around for a while it stops accepting the login password.

I know i am typing in the correct password and it actually works only after i restart the laptop.

Any sudgestions?

This could be a number of problems.

You say it sits around for awhile, locks up, then stops accepting the password. Do you mean, after that, it just stays at the login screen, asking for the password again, but not accepting it? If that's the case, I'm supposing you can't get into Windows at all? Does this go for only one account or for multiple accounts?

I take "It Locks itself up" as it goes to sleep (stand by) and is set to prompt for a login apon "wake up".

Check in your power options to see if it is set to do this. It may be as easy as unchecking that option. This doesn't explain why the login password that works on boot doesn't work on wake up, but it may get the problem out of the way.
