I am devastated to report the following:

Passage to India, which is probably my favorite Detroit area restaurant of all time, has closed.

I'm sorry.

I strongly recommend this establishment as a replacement: http://www.detroitrangoli.com/restaurant.nsf/sbh?openview

It's every bit as good as Passage to India was.

I'm sorry to hear this. I looked forward to going here during each visit to ICHQ. My first Indian experience and one of the best I've had.

This is a disaster. I'm making a note here, huge failure. Its hard to overstate how much I loved PTI.

p.s. I love how a 20 mile drive is considered "ELEVEN THOUSAND MILES AWAY". Silly Detroiters.

Fuck you Prime. Every single time I arrive in Detroit you and the others had gone to PTI before I arrived. I'm holding you accountable for me never having experienced PTI.

I'll be glad to take people who don't think a 30 minute drive isn't the other end of the earth. ;)

I too haven't attended this PtI place, but since a 30 minute drive is a trifle, I'll go with Thrax.

I'll have to get some tasty Indian food from Sindhu and pour out some curry for the lost restaurant. Even though I never got to go there.

mmm...lunch buffet at the new place. :)

Sorry guys. There are lots of good Indian restaurants. We have 2 awesome ones over here that are both absolutely delicious. You can't really go horribly wrong with Indian food, as long as an Indian is cooking...

You should ask the owner of Passage to India to just cater at EPIC.

The new place has cheap catering. This might be a fun thing to do. Easier than getting a giant group to go out to a place.

Honestly, I only went to Passage of India once, but I didn't like it. I'm looking forward to trying somewhere new.

I know you guys are seeing it from the perspective of "group of 40 of us show up and they close the place down and it's a little harried and ..."

but from my perspective, it has been one of the most consistently wonderful dining experiences that I've had in the area over the years. I could always count on them for amazing atmosphere, food, and service. I absolutely adored the place.

I KNOW there are other excellent Indian restaurants in the area, trust me. remember me? I'm the guy who does the food tour? :D I'm just sad for this particular place because it was awesome, that's all. It's not the death of Indian food in Detroit or anything like that.

No, I think it's great that they closed down for us. It was awesome of them to cater to us so wonderfully. I just didn't like the food.

As far as indian food goes, it was kinda "meh" in my opinion. It was very nice of them to close down and let us all bring our own booze, though. :)

Just move ICHQ to the Ann Arbor area. There are 5 Indian restaurants within a 10 mile radius, and those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head (I think there might be more like 8-10).

Plus: Ethiopian, Cuban, Korean, Chinese x10000, etc.
