Is it possible to boot a computer from a USB storage device. For instance, would it be possible to boot from and operate a laptop computer with an external USB hard drive? Also, would you be able to boot and operate the laptop from the USB drive if the laptop's internal hard drive were removed?

    "Boot from other devices"

The option in the BIOS. What does 'other' entail? Could USB be an option there? Maybe?

Only if your motherboard supports it. If it supports it then after the POST where it lists some more info, it should show it there, if it doesn't then it is most likely that it wont work. Depending on your motherboard you may have to either turn off the First, Second and Third boot device options and turn on Boot Other Device, or, if your motherboard gives you a list of detected devices, change it to the first boot device there.

enverex is right, seen that option on a few board, macs love to boot off firewire as well as USB, so PCs will adopt soon enough
