Popup Menus with JavaScript

Anyone know of an online tutorial that explains how JavaScript Popup Menus work? I'm talking about fairly specific popup menus, like seen here on S-M and on Yahoo!'s email. If you look to the top of this page and click on "Search" or "Quick Links" you will see the type of Popup Menus I am thinking of.

I've looked at the vBulletin and Yahoo! code to see if I could come up with my own, but I guess I've missed something because attempting to duplicate the effects have been, thus far, unsuccessful.

That's more of a dropdown than a popup. I found something similar here.

    Perhaps it is.

I considered it a popup because it was actually popping up in a different box (frame/window/whatever) rather than extending from the main menu item as a normal drop down.

Anyway, thanks for the link. I'll go over it. :)

If anyone else has anything that might be useful please post it!
