The day is here. What appears to be the to-be-released Android 2.1 ROM for the Samsung Moment has leaked out onto the webs.

So far, reviews are coming in pretty positive. I just finished downloading, myself, so I'll trip report it shortly.

AWESOME news... Let us know how it does. What version were you on before? 1.5? 1.6?

The Moment and Hero ship with 1.5.

So far initial impressions are fantastic. It's snappy, smooth, and everything just plain works.

The best one for me is being able to hook into the 802.1x-controlled WPA2 wifi network here at work. 1.5 doesn't have the necessary VPN-like tools to connect. 2.1 hooked right in and went on its merry way.

Very cool... I'm looking forward to it for my (wait for it...) Motorola Cliq.

    Ooh... So sorry.

But hey, at least it's not the inane collection of gimpware that the Backflip appears to be.

I can't wait. ADG has been teasing me with his 2.1 goodness.

So after nearly 24 hours, I'm still loving the 2.1 goodness. There are a few things that still need to be worked out (at least in the Moment ROM) before release on the Moment, but nothing that will make me turn back.

    Issues so far:
Grooveshark's app doesn't show up in the Market for 2.1, though it appears that the apk installs just fine if you can find it.
Some of my paid games are not showing up, though their lite versions are there.
I had to reboot after a data hangup last night, but it's been solid since.
Battery life seems a little worse than the CL14 1.5 update, but it's too early to say for sure, since I've been playing with this thing more than a 5 year old that discovers he has a peener.
Performance could be a bit smoother since they added in activity transitions

Things that are great so far:
    Goggles!
802.1x PEAP/MSCHAP connectivity (our internal work wifi uses this)
    Performance is snappier than 1.5.
New dialer is much more appealing to the eye
    2.1 Market is much nicer
Exchange sync appears to work great, at least to Kwitko's [strike]mom[/strike] work environment
    Memory management is much better
    Built-in task/process killer

All-in-all, I'm loving it, and can't wait to see what the final optimized and polished release looks like.

Did they include the "car-mode" in your 2.1? I've been waiting for that feature. I mount my Cliq on the dashboard but I cannot actually read stuff. I use the Google Maps and really only for gross directions. When I get close to a turn/exit, I have to grab my Cliq and look at it up close.

I don't see an option for "car-mode" anywhere. Is it a menu option, or something that's supposed to happen automagically somehow?

Not sure... the Droid has a "car mode" so I hoped it was a Android feature and not a Droid only feature. It increases the fonts and the turn-by-turn navigation is enlarged so you can read it from a few feet away (as in while driving).

    Update:

    Now running with persistent root.

Also added Live wallpapers and the Nexus 1 launcher.

Now, if only the actual 2.1 ROM comes with as much awesomeness as I carry with me.

    Another update:

Looks like yet another build (DD10) has leaked. Loaded it up this morning (while in a meeting, which is why I so love the SDX guys), and already noticing performance improvements.

The current suspicion is that the speed increase is primarily due to removal of debug code as the build starts nearing release.

Still hoping to see some battery improvements. Also turned off live wallpaper, since the device really has to work hard to run it, and I don't necessarily want to keep my phone plugged in ALL the time.
