Yep, write it off, it's gone. He stole a processor that was provided by Hotrodsun, which I'm really sorry to say, but there's no legal recourse that we can pursue. Since I know Mr. Daher (and his friends) will be reading this thread, I guess they can feel special about that.

So, our plan is to create a new machine that will be folding under the same name: Icrontic10.

In that regard, the next SMx rig will be Icrontic10, and this time we can find a mature host who can be a decent human being about this whole thing.

Prime I disagree on the name! This is no longer Icrontic. Icrontic 10 is dead so Let it stay dead! the next one should be SMX

Look at it another way. It just might stick in someone's craw to realize that their immature attempt to kill off one of our Folding rigs didn't work. Yeah, they can steal some parts - but they can't stop our project.

I know how you feel, but think it over in light of what I just said. They say the best revenge is living well.

yeah let the dead lie as a reminder and just move on ...IMO filling the void is not as important as moving forward. :fold:

I like the idea of continuing the Icrontic 10 name myself, with the new rig turning out points like it was supposed to in the first place, instead of sitting and gathering dust like it did for 3 months or better when shenlong was playing GI Joe. :)

No need to have another dead name on our team. Some kid is not going to ruin this team and the project.

I don't know about y'all, but speaking as someone that's been passed over a few times in the selection process for hosting an SMx rig, no offense to anyone on the selection committee but it makes me angry when I find out that someone that DID get selected is such a piece of trash. It isn't fair to all of us that are still waiting.

That's all I've got to say about that.

I support building a new IC10. I don't like the idea of having a non-producing ICx or SMx name on our team.

I agree with drasnor. Granted, the selection process is as tight as it can be, but sometimes people can change... in this case, it was for the worse.

I think a contract is a good deterrent for the would-be trolls out there. And a widely-spread member base willing to defend the SMx rigs from kidnappers is a good enforcement method.

I am not on the selection committee, but I was a long time ago.

It is NOT an easy decision. Several factors are weighed when making such decision and not everyone will be happy.

The good thing about this team is that a lot of the members qualify and want to be a host. The bad thing about this team is that a lot of members qualify and want to be a host. YES, the good and the bad are the same in this case.

If a member meets all the criteria and is selected but after a period of time decides to say "screw it", the selection committee can not be held accountable. It is a BAD thing to have happen, but who can really predict the future when human beings are involved? NOBODY.

Drasnor: Please be patient. If you meet the qualifications of being a host, I'm sure you will be selected at some time.

My part contribution to ICx/SMx has only been a 2mb PCI video card. I may have donated $20, but I don't remember for sure.

I will make the following offer to the team:
I will change one of my rigs over to Icrontic_10. If I can not keep it running for some reason, I will turn it over to whomever the selection committee decides to host it. I'll even sign a contract stating that it is property of Short-Media.com Folding Team.

    Mobo - ECS, K7S5A
    CPU - xp1800
RAM - don't remember, but it works
    HDD - 4gb something
    CDRom - 24x?
    VID - Maxtor MGA-G100 4mb AGP
Case - El Cheapo (missing some 5-1/4 & 3-1/2 bay blanks)
    PSU - El Cheapo
    NO floppy

It's the one circled in this picture....

He WAS a good member at the time. Monetary doantions, part donations, participation. Then he went into the military. Something must have changed him.

drasnor: Thank you for your patience. Hopefully we will be able to get one to you.

If my vote counts for anything, I say forget naming it Icrontic 10, and name it SM10. Better yet, designate 10 as the SM number o' shame, and never ever use 10 again, for anything. Make IC/SM10 the Benedict Arnold of the SMX project and move on.

To his credit, Mr. Daher was a very active and participatory member of the icrontic folding team, and he was very generous with his parts and monetary donations. Perhaps his ego got in the way or his need to impress his online friends was part of it, but something did indeed go wrong and it's a shame. We never intended for this to be a "bash shenlong" thing. What he did sucks, but what's done is done.

It's a tough call what to do about the "10" thing - Icrontic10, SM10, or no "10"....We should leave that up to the majority vote of the team.

This brings up a point that I've been wanting to address for a long time: Shenlong and his friends, one of whom was responsible for defacing our website July of last year, are always rambling about how we "stole" team icrontic.. This is just such a weird concept to me, since icrontic and short-media are just names and URLs.. The team hasn't changed one bit - it's still the same leadership, mostly the same members, the same effort, the same project, the same number. The name changed. Whatever the "old icrontic" was is basically right here right now. I fail totally to understand how "we" stole a team when it's the same damned "we" as it was before

Well, whatever. The opinion of 5-6 teenagers who don't get out of their bedrooms very often doesn't hold much sway with me.

Like Prime said, the team is still the same; the person who "stole" Team Icrontic was the asshat that hacked the old Icrontic site into oblivion. The team is still the same with many of the old members from wayyyy back when the team was formed and it's still listed as Team 93. Short-Media happened due to Mortin losing interest in his baby and leaving everyone on "Team 93" hanging in the air for a forum and in great part, Short-Media was formed.

Ive always wanted to host a rig, ive never submitted my name, not because I cant provide a safe secure place for it, but more because since I was laid off from my IT job, I lost the 10 rigs I had folding for the team, and as I dont have the right cooling on my main rig here I dont fold with it... However, ive put together a box outta spare parts.. Once I get a working HD for it, it will be folding for the team.. (24/7) it would be up and running but the only HD I have for it was a ibm 13.6 gig deadstar drive that makes the click O' death. I do believe I may have a 6 gig somewhere in storage. Hopefully ill have it online next weekend... If I have that old drive....

its only a duron 1gig but hey it will do some work...

    Viva la Short-Media

I know I don't get around here much anymore, but It still makes me mad that shenlong took our box. If he lives near oregon I'd take a little trip to go collect it for us, and slide her next to IC8/SM8. But I can't remember where I sent the processor. So I guess we just move on and say f#ck him. I was very happy when Short-media came online It gave me a new home. I don't fell I need to sign a "contract" to keep the teams computer here, If there comes a day I can take care of her I'll be a man and pass it along to worthy host. Well I guess thats all I have to say. Later, Adam

I am damn proud of hosting SM19 and this crap really ticks me off. I worked my butt off to justify host a SMx rig. Three times I tried before being selected. Grrrr.

I think that SM10 should be reborn and that we should post our displeasure with the host of the old SM10 on every tech website... a type of blacklist. I know we have a large number of members that are members of other tech sites. Post that this guy (INSERT REAL NAME) has broken an agreement and has stolen research equipment that was agreed was owned by the Icrontic/ Short-Media team.

Another note... "SM10-Reborn". Now that is a name for a SMx Rig. That's my vote.

IC10. No point leaving the current points for the machine go to waste, also no point leaving a whole in the series.

Sm10-reborn thats it! Thats my vote! The team is going to be getting alot more points comin up Ive convinced my father and mom and grandma to let thier Athlon 64 3400+ Atlon 3000+ and Athlon 2800+ to fold for team 93 then I am upgrading to 64 bit on tues or wed PLUS i am building 5 new computers that I will install folding on as long as I can make it undetectable! thses are just office comps so they wont use all the power the 3000_+ will offer

I agree with enverex - no need to change the name because that is just another acknowledgement of the theft. I personally think that we should get a rig to continue folding as Icrontic10 and just move on to the next SMx rig.

Plus, changing the name would break shwaip's sweet stats page ;)

Is there a way to contact Standford and let them know what's going on and have them change their database with the new name (SM10-Reborn)? It's not like we ask too much. We ARE one of the top ten teams and we ARE doing this for free and out of our own pockets. The least they could do is change a name for us...
