Help with networking - work laptop, home network!

Hello all,

I'm new here so forgive me if I've missed an obvious thread on this topic!

I have a little Samsung NC20 as my work laptop, not the greatest netbook, but does the job all the same. I asked my work to activate my home network and they did so happily. They asked me to copy all the info from IPCONFIG/ALL in order to do so.

Now whenever I'm at home and I turn on my computer it says "set for home use" and lists my IP address. The little network thing in the bottom corner even looks as it should (without the red cross). But when I try to load a web page it just won't work.

Any help would be awesome, I'm meant to be working from home over christmas.

p.s. i'm not an administrator so have very limited permissions

All you should need is your network SSID, key (password), and encryption type, so that if they limit access to setting up wireless networks on your computer you can give them that info. If they did that, try
    ipconfig /release

    then
    ipconfig /renew

to pick up a new address from your home router.

Open a command prompt (Start > Run > CMD) and type in the following:
    ping yahoo.com

If that works, then you might be viewing in offline mode. If it doesn't, then it might not have been set up correctly.

If the former, then to get out of offline mode, go to the File menu and check to see if Work Offline is checked. (Same for Internet Explorer and Firefox). If so, click it off. If not, then the next thing is to check with your IT folks and see if they've got a proxy running.
