I know that the rumor mills are still churning, but when is this phone finally going to hit? I keep hearing the 4th, but I also heard end of Feb. That came and passed...

I can't be more frustrated with my BB Storm.

The current rumor says the first half of March, and that it was delayed due to a battery life issue.

I've heard several rumours. All saying first half of March, but most of what I'm hearing is that it's been software QA issues galore. The same ones that will see it release without WiFi and without Skype.

Isn't the Thunderbolt essentially an EVO for Verizon?

If you slapped a significantly faster CPU and GPU into the EVO, yes.

I haven't looked that far into it. Didn't realize they did CPU/GPU upgrades.

    Didn't figure. I know you're a sprint guy.

//edit: To expand, the EVO uses a 1st-gen Snapdragon chip, whereas the Tbolt uses a second-gen chip. There are CPU improvements, but major GPU improvements. I believe I read somewhere that the 2nd-gen Snapdragon GPU is about 2-6x faster. In practical terms, the T-Mo G2 totally kicks the crap out of the EVO in the fluidity department, even if it is 200MHz "slower."

Okay, off topic, but an associate of mine who assumes I know more about phones than I really do, walks up and says to me today.... I want to Jailbreak my Android so I can use it on Cricket?

    I kept a straight face.

As of April 1, your plan has to be over $164.99 to qualify for the once-yearly upgrade.

    /me also hugs his EVO.

I suppose that's better than the change to new every two with VZW. You don't get the 10-12 month upgrade option any more. So you either get a one year contract and upgrade every 10 months (and pay a little more) or subsidize your phone a bit more and get a 2 year, but not upgrade.

Really a tough call, to me.

So, after a weekend of very heavy use I think its save to say that I really, really like this phone.

I don't have much to compare it to, considering I'm coming over from the original Storm (9530). My fiancée did get a Droid 2, so I have something to compare it to. Both phones are extremely snappy, although mine really, really flies. The battery use isn't nearly as bad as reported, but I've also been good about turning off and on wi-fi and network, and I also haven't had a chance to try out the 4G network (which, to my understanding, is where the real battery drain lies).

Overall, this was worth every penny I paid.

I got to try one at a VZW store I passed by when I was in Detroit. There was a touch of lag when transitioning back from the Sense desktop previews to a specific desktop, but it is a spectacularly beautiful phone.

I noticed that as well, but rarely use the Sense desktop previews. The large majority of my phone use is located on the main home screen right now.

I am very, very surprised by the quality of the screen. I knew it was supposed to be good, and I'd seen some videos, but it is a beautiful screen.

Friend of mine picked one up this weekend (another Sprint defector). It's quite nice. I both like and dislike the weight of it. It feels really solid, but it's extremely heavy compared to my Fascinate.

I, too, do not use desktop previews, so the lag wouldn't be an issue for me. Plus, I also use LPP.

Attempted to get a 'Bolt today. Unfortunately my contract has 2 more months so I decided to wait. Until then I'm hoping the Bionic is released so the wait will give me another option or at least drive the price down of the 'Bolt.

Bionic could get delayed now that the key algorithm for the bootloader has been released.

Bionic could get delayed now that the key algorithm for the bootloader has been released.

Apparently that was a false alarm at best, deliberate trolling at worst.

On a note about the Bionic, rumor has it VZW will have their tiered 4G pricing in place for the Bionic, meaning renewed contracts will be at the tiered pricing instead of unlimited.

You have to be kidding, I know that unlimited data will be going away but I didn't think it would be in place by the time the Bionic arrives.

That's a rumor based on a June release for the Bionic, since they've started speculating April, it is possible it won't be imposed by then.

I'm also partial to not having a locked bootloader, which is in place on the Bionic (to my knowledge).

In any case, Verizon themselves have stated they'll be moving to tiered data this summer.

Tiered mobile data was inevitable, especially since the FCC's net neutrality regs treat it as a special snowflake internets.

Which part: The algorithm being leaked, or Moto freaking out about it and scrambling to redo the bootloader before launch?

They got a C&D because their legal team was all up on it. The guy admitted in the IRC channel that he was deliberately trolling people.
