The contract is done, so it's time!
Here are the requirements:
1) Team member must be in good standing and have shown dedication to Team Short-Media and the Folding@Home project for the long haul. Past participation and contributions are taken into account.
2) The member must be able to provide the computer with a safe and secure environment for an extended period of time - this means an indeterminate period.
3) You must be knowledgeable in building computers and loading operating systems, and all that is entailed. In the event the rig should fail, the host is expected to make a good effort in trying to repair the rig and report to the team what is going on.
4) Dedicated, "always-on" Internet connection 24/7, 56K and up, and a free port on an existing network (we don't normally supply routers/hubs/switches with the SMx rig). If the internet connection should fail, the host is expected to make good faith efforts to get back online as soon as is possible.
5) The computer must run and "fold" 24/7. (Yes, the Team is generous enough to allow you to go on vacation and turn it off.) Keep in mind that 24-hour operating will increase your electricity bill by up to a few dollars per month. The Team expects the host to make good faith efforts to keep the rig running as much as is possible.
6) The computer shall fold for Team #93, under the user name of "SMx" exclusively unless it has been voted on to make it differently. The team can/will monitor the rigs output by way of statistics provided by Stanford, Statsman and the like.
7) In the event the host can no longer host the SMx rig or he/she is not able to run the rig for an extended period of time due to things like being called to duty in the armed forces for example, it is to be found a new host by normal host selection process.
8) What does the host get out of this? The pride of being able to host a SMx Folding rig, one of very few to earn this privilege. To be able to help Team Short-Media be the best team and the F@H project find cures.
9) Hosts must provide contact information such as phone number and address in case an emergency contact needs to be made.
10) Hosts must sign the hosting contract before the computer will be shipped to them.

Good luck to our contestants!
looking forward to a decision, no matter what way it goes
It's bad, man... You don't want to know....
My house is 2 hours away from my dorm, but it has an always-on 128Kb DSL connection and is air-conditioned. There's room next to the other computers in the folding farm, and I'll usually be able to service it on weekends if there's a problem.
I've built a few machines and rebuilt quite a few, both Macs and PCs, have some Linux shell experience and extensive Windows and MacOS experience, and have been folding for the team for about a year and a half now.

Bud, we could use some more details about your connection, etc.
Got direcway satalite internet access for it with monitor adn a empty desk in my fortified room!
I would add my hat to the ring, but would have problems with heat and funding right now. room is too hot to add a box I am working on plus three always on rigs. ALL of them would flake, except in winter down here. AND I am not an OCer enough to be able to push a rig a lot, so an OCer might be able to get more prod out of an SMx rig.
* bows gracefully out, WANTS to but cannot do so....
Wild idea.... Start a waiting list for boxes. Then you have a pool of folks who want to and have proven they CAN host when needs come up for relocations or new box hosting or rehosting a box that cannot stay where it is for other reasons. Then you can pick from the waiting pool also.

Thanks, but I drill into mine all the time-- tweaking and otherwise. I like deep knowledge tweaking and study. That is the other reason-- with research time for all the things I am interested in and fixing\upgrading\specing both as a pro and developing business and solving misc developing eye issues (surgeon says strightening right eye is out, I would see massively double for life if I did that and other eye folks are having problems fixing optically), would not do justice to all three either.
Also very welcome and earned, you and Mondi both ROCK as enthusiasts-- not to knock anyone else, either, LOTS of you here rock as techs and enthusiasts.
John.
Folding for Team 93 for 6+ months now. I haven't been at this as long as some others who have volunteered, but I am dedicated to both this site and our Team. I am cranking out 600 to 700 points a week right now on 3 CPU's, and looking to add a few more systems to my name soon.
24/7 Cable at home, and a couple of free ports on the router. I have room in my den to place the box, either high on a shelf or in a closet, and have lots of long ethernet cables to plug it in. I can run PC Anywhere on the box to log in remotely, so don't need a KVM switch once it is operational. I also have the easy ability to move it to my office if I have any connection downtime at home (ie, I'm moving in a month, and can bring it to the office during the move so as not to lose connectivity.)
I have no problem signing a hosting contract, I am a family man, mid-30's, and a military reservist, if those things count towards respectability points (or trustworthiness points) with anyone. And I am a good personal friend of MediaMan's, so if the box is not folding, you can send him over to harrass me
And of course, I have no problem working to fix anything that goes wrong with the box.
And I know that no one usually gets selected the first time they volunteer, so I expect that this will be my primer for future considerations
Dexter...
The decision about who is a host is based on several factors, and you have just as much chance as any other person who throws their name into the hat. To think otherwise would be presumptuous and just setting yourself up for disaster.
With that said, may the best candidate win, best of luck to *all* of you.
/me shakes his head in shame
Sorry got alittle far ahead of myself there! Always good to have such kind words said when all you really wanna do is smack me and say shut up! Its also nice to have suck kind people doing the humbling instead of watching me fall flat on my face then laugh!
To them I salute you!
As always it doesnt matter who get it! Its all about doing this > To cure people from getting something like this>>
now shut up
now shut up
I say we need this smilie!
Look here at the end of the first post on where to send spare parts.
