Side note - I see no provisions for an "efficient" range of liquid engines in terms of thrust percentage in the config files.

That would be a great mod :)

It may be due to space and time literally being ripped apart around them?

    Getting better at circularizing:

I was so pissed last night. I had an awesome flight, went way way way up high, returned to the planet and delpoyed my chute for a nice landing, floated softly down, and when it hit the water the capsule blew up. WTF! One hour flight ruined at the last second.

How are you guys getting more stages? I seem to get to 6 and then nothing. Am I not supposed to couple everything?

I'm still on the "faster, farther" part... Last night's flight, which I let go until I woke up this morning, was awesome. Top speed of 3800 m/s and 200,000K. Looked great and it was not dropping speed but by 1/10 every minute or so.

This afternoon I ran a flight that maxed out at 7000 m/s and was at 2,000K after only 17 minutes. I will start working on orbit and landings next...

The Sunday Punch mod makes stages a lot easier, though with the basic set, I was using a lot of radial couplers, and then reorganizing the launch sequence.

If you take the .zip file from my stages post, and extract it to the ships folder, you should be able to see how its put together.

I finally caved in and started screwing around with this. My third design has potential for a stable orbit.... right now I'm kind of spiraling outward from the planet (with no fuel left o_O)

    2700 m/s at 260k? you're not coming back.

You don't ever need to go faster than 2330 m/s in orbit. That's for 50k, the higher you go, the slower you need to be.

He'll be back in 8 hours or so. He's going 150m/s less than escape velocity.

You need to be going faster than 2330 m/s at 50k to insert into a transfer orbit from a circular orbit. If you still have a lot of vertical speed when you hit 50km you can insert at much lower horizontal speed but you'll need a longer burn to circularize.

Yeah, the liquids are pretty good. Pretty tough to carry payloads with just liquids though - good challenge!

All the standard ones listed here.

Most people don't notice that those downloads aren't structured correctly. You need to get in and make sure all the parts folders are only one level deep.

Welp... designed a couple rockets that I got safely into orbit (and back again). Designed a couple absurd ones that blew up. Now I'm bored with this game.
