back on topic: are the rumors of the "curved" screen been pretty much squashed on the nexus prime?
This rumor has gained some more credence since word slipped that maybe VZW isn't releasing the phone we all know as the Nexus Prime, after all. It could very well be that the Verizon DROID Prime looks like a large Nexus S, complete with contoured screen, exactly as described on 4chan and elsewhere.
That would leave room for the 4.65" Nexus Galaxy to emerge with a flat screen, as planned.
So, Samsung just announced the Galaxy S II HD, a 720p version of the S2 with LTE. Who wants to bet that this is the phone Verizon passed on the original S2 for? It even has the TouchWiz UI, which the rumors have been saying this next-gen Verizon phone would have.
I'm now inclined to believe that this is the Droid Prime, and that VZW isn't getting the Nexus Prime at all, or at least until there's an LTE version. This phone also slots very well into big red's lineup in October in ways the SGS2 didn't against the Bionic.
Let's look at all the ways this matches the Nexus Prime-on-VZW rumors:
4.65" screen? Check.
720p resolution? Check.
TouchWiz UI? Check.
Dual core 1.5GHz? Check.
LTE-enabled? Check.
Built by Samsung? Check.
Ready for October? Check.
1GB RAM? Check.
SAMOLED screen? Check.
Yeah, lots of things are adding up.
Hell, a non-LTE version of this phone with ICS could be the Nexus Prime.
So this is now to be VZW's flagship superphone, right? I don't see why they'd bother with the Nexus Prime if there going to be touting a device like this.

My only concern at this point is whether it can be unlocked, rooted, and ICS'ed as easily as the "real" Galaxy S II. If so, then it's as good as a Nexus Prime in my book. Better if the Nexus isn't LTE.
No, because if the VZW Nexus has LTE, that means a different baseband, which means people will have to develop a separate ROM specifically for the Verizon version. I'm sure some will take the challenge, but it'll never see the quantity of development a real Nexus phone will have.

Who cares. Still unlimited data for phones.
