Would you compare this to the age old Crimson Skys game from early 2000's? I liked the solo adventures but loved the game when playing at a LAN.

I have fond memories of Crimson Skies at lan parties. Was always the game we played at around 5am before the sun came up. I used one of those first gen force feedback joysticks. Thing was huge.

Tried the demo on Xbox. I was hoping for a Crimson Skies experience. This game didn't cut it. The graphics were ok. The controls I thought were awful. It didn't feel responsive, it felt like half the time I was controlling the plane and the other half of the time it was moving the camera around the plan. It just didn't feel right at all. I would think on PC with a flight stick it would probably be pretty good.

Oh come on, is Crimson Skies that good? I read that it crashes a lot. Didn't do much research though, I must admit.

I still have Crimson Skies... I haven't played it in a few years but it really was a good flight combat game. Places to fly through, stunts, ability to chose speed, guns, armor, and, really, a good balanced game. A good pilot in a fast plane can put up a good fight against an armored gun ship that is slow.

    Kryyst,

I didn't play the Xbox demo, so I can't speak to the controls or graphics. I will say that at 1080p on the PC the graphics are fantastic and, at least with the flight stick, the controls are fine (excepting the failure to support throttle on the flight stick, which I expect will be easily fixed in a patch).

It's not quite Crimson Skies. There's no adventure. This is pure racing. The single-player campaign is that of any racing game: Race through the ranks on increasingly more difficult courses with increasingly more difficult opponent AI to unlock more planes and skins. There is no story and there are no characters.

Yes Crimson Skies was that good. The PC version was amazing. The Xbox version wasn't as good in the pure flight dept, but it's adaptation to more of an arcade game was very well done and the improvments to the story/campaign aspects were amazing. PC Crimson Skies was the absolute best dog fight flight game ever put out. Not because of it's authenticity but because of it's accessibility and depth of environments and planes.

It's just unfortunate that it's damn near impossible to get it to run on any modern hardware or OS. I still play the xbox version though so much fun. It's unfortunate that the license is I think currently in limbo. Last I heard Smith & Tinker had purchased it and there it sits.

Er... the game's really old at this point unless they re-released it somewhere that I'm unaware of. The game was amazing at the time, though, yeah. It never crashed on my old Compaq Presario with Stealth III graphics card - hope this helps!

    :p
