Skyrim level cap

I'm 51 now. I assumed (I don't know why) that the level cap was 50 for some reason. Now that I know it's not, it seems weird... you can basically perk up everything.

I've got all the archery and sneak perks. Working on smithing and enchanting now so I can make the most amazing bow of all time.

Skyrim wiki says ~80 once all skills are 100 because the XP curve sharpens drastically after 50.

    level cap is 81

you can have 80 perk points

leveling after 50 is slow as shit

The maximum level is level 81 and is reached by increasing all skills to 100. With every skill mastered, the level progress meter will rest a little over halfway to '82', meaning it is not necessary to master every skill to achieve Level 81.

And just because you level all skills to 100 doesn't mean you have enough perk points to perk everything. You get 81ish skill points for what I think are over 270 possible perks.

I apparently heard wrong. 81 sounds like a pita to get.

How many Perk trees could you max out?
  • SnarkasmSnarkasm Madison, WI Icrontian

Depends which you choose. From a quick look, some trees only take 10 points to max (smithing, light armor), while others take 21 (one-handed). There are 251 perk points (my bad above). At an average of 13 or 14 per "max", you could get 5 or 6 maxes.

Thief/sneak looks by far the easiest grouping to max; 15/10/11/12/13/13. Mage is 14/16/17/13/13/13, and warrior is 16/13/12/21/19/10.

Cool, I wanted to make a mage/archer hybrid with conjurer/arch/illusionist/sneak but I wasnt sure if its was possible to get the perks in all all the trees but it seems so.

Trying to play without ruining the game for myself by looking up the best gear/build for damage stuff like I tend to do.

Conrad, that's basically exactly what my character is: Sneak/conjurer/archery. I've also maxed out light armor and am working on smithing and enchanting so I can make the ultimate bow.

Is the crafted bow better than the conjured one?

Yes, definitely. I'm currently on Ebony, and I just made an improved Ebony bow (57 base dmg). I enchanted it with Fiery Soul Trap so it does burn, an additional 12, AND soul trap when they die (which is almost always one-hit), and that's before you tack on the Ebony arrows. When I can craft a Daedric bow and put TWO enchantments on it, watch the fuck out :D

*sigh* looks like I'm going to start dropping points in smithing...

Is there a way to remove a perk via console, too, fatcat?

    player.removeperk (id number)

You can look up the numbers on several different sites, which I can't search from work.

Found my first paralysis causing weapon today. I knew they were supposed to be rare. But I was getting to the point where I thought they were unique. It's now been disenchanted and my near game breaking weapons have been created. Just need to get my enchantment up a little bit so I can dual enchant.

Yeah, I have a Daedric dagger that I made and enchanted. It does 72 dmg + paralysis. With my Ancient Shrouded set + 100 sneak + perks, I can one-shot a dragon with it.

You play a thief, and somehow have enough perk points for full smithing (maybe they let you go for just one side of smithing to get there, I don't know), enchanting and still have left overs for thief skills? I want to see a perk build map or something. Maybe I'm misinterpreting though.

Smithing takes 10 perks for everything. But you can ignore some of them depending on the build you want.

That makes more sense. I invested nothing in magic and several into various thief skills that you chose not to use. Good deal.

I also wasn't sure if you could take a "top" skill that had two points leading into it. According to the calc, you don't but that may or may not be true.

Sneak, Archery, Light Armor. What else do you need? :D I completely ignore lockpicking perks because I think they're useless. You can still always open every lock with enough persistence. That entire perk tree is pointless. I never pickpocket, so I don't care about it. The few times you are forced to pickpocket, the game makes it easy (80% or something).

I took a few in pickpocket to get the extra carrying capacity, and I do agree about the locksmithing stuff (after the fact). I may console out the locksmithing stuff and pick up other stuff.

Smithing/Enchanting: the amount that you improve something depends on your skill and (in enchanting) the level of soul you use, correct? Obviously, you can also use the blackmith potion/philter/elixir to increase as well.

http://skyrimcalculator.com/#22270 will probably be my 50 build. sneaky assassin with some some punch up close, with ability to dual enchant and craft nice things.

For prime/anyone: Is daedric the way to go for weapons? Are you using armor you got through game then improved since you took the "heavy" side of smithing tree?
  • primesuspectprimesuspect Beepin n' Boopin Detroit, MI Icrontian
    edited December 2011
Yeah, I took the heavy tree to get to Dragon and so I could improve everything. For example, I took dwarven and made a fantastic dwarven bow. The improving is, in my opinion, highly underrated, but anything you make is going to be WAY better than anything you find, if you drink a blacksmith elixir and wear blacksmithing gear before you improve it. I made a set of blacksmithing gear that I wear when I go to the forge. The improvements are CRAZY good, and you can even improve things you find (even unique/named items).

Oh: yeah, Daedric are the best weapons in the game. I took Dragon smithing so I could make light armor for Aranea, mostly.

There is one weapon that I've found that you can't out-smith - the Blade of Woe. It will always cause more damage than any other dagger at the same level.
