It's hard to explain. We didn't get good pictures because we didn't want to get harassed by security and it's dark in the casinos, but the entire thing you see there EXCEPT for the reels is a high-def LCD... But it's a transparent overlay. The reels themselves are animated by the overlay. It's almost like augmented reality in that it can draw glowing lines and other graphic effects over the reels. It's remarkable, for real.
When I stayed at the Luxor back in August, I was blown away by some of the tech being used on the slot machines and video card games. I think I spent more money just playing with them, seeing what all they could display and what not, than I did with serious intent of winning anything.
I actually saw a few of these on a casino cruise I took with CB and Betsy a month or so ago.

Transparent displays sound like a lot of fun. I'm really watching out for when I can get an overlay for my car, my motorcycle helmet, and my eyeglasses. Mostly my glasses. I want a HUD.
If Dennou Coil's level of technology could be a reality...man, that would rock.
