Another sweet thing about the 64bit version for me is they implemneted the same scsi fix they did in win2k3 finaly so I have a XP version that actually has decent scsi performance without me having to compromise it.

Something for me to work on I suppose ;).

XP-64 isn't working on my dual Opteron. I got it to install onto my VIA southbridge RAID using the hacked driver from http://www.planetamd64.com but Windows BSOD's every time I try to boot it up. It crashes on a driver file when I try to boot into safe mode, though I don't remember which since I'm not quick enough to read it before it BSODs.

We currently have no information as to the status of 64bit driver
    development by Creative.
If you are curious as to if there will be native Windows drivers in Win
    XP 64
you may want to direct that question to Microsoft as they will be
    developing
    any native drivers.

As far as I can tell the only friggin sound driver for 64bit xp is the realtek. Which your MB hopefully has built in since I canb't find a aftermarket card.

I mean this limited driver B.S. was sorta expected with win2k3 64bit but.... give me a break already here. Whats the point of XP without sound? If they can't even cough up a sound blaster stinking driver of some kind then ..... I have beta'd every windoes OS since 3.1 and this is really pissing me off.

Anyone have working anti-virus yet? I swear by nortons and 2002, 2003, and 2004 all threw up all over me. The platform is useless as a everyday box without anti-virus with email scanning. If anyone has a good working anti-virus that runs on 64bit XP for gods sake contact me asap.

Hopefully there will be drivers. I mean the final version is due sometime this summer and then they must have drivers ready. It wait and see again. Maybe they're afraid to let people in to early. I mean if everyone is using the trial then none is gonna buy the full version. Not many anyway.

And the killer for me isnt even the sound but... There is NO ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE available at this time. All the ones that do real time scanning use 32bit drivers and there is no 32bit drivers of any kind allowed.

You know now that I have virus software I went ahead and installed most of the other crap I would load and I'm really liking the 64bit XP. If it had a few more drivers I would be friggin head over heals guys.

Would still love to add a soundcard. If anyone anywhere finds a pci sound card of any quality at ll I could add I would be thrilled. The ac'97 one si found are much older and I'm not sure the realtek ac'97 ones will work as they are deasigned for alc650 or something chips and thats all onboard stuff. Heard reports they also work with some c-media chipsets. Some guys are scarfing 64bit drivers from 64bit longhorn. But so far it doesn't seem to have much sound either.

I jsut can't believe they didn't cough up sound blaster drivers of some level.... Ot ATI drivers.... Ot Intel pro gigabit drivers...

I mean those are three pretty big names in their intended markets. ??? I know so much of this doesn't make sense but... If you were going to chunck out a new OS and had to make do with ONE sound driver... Your honestly telling me you would of picked ac'97 over sound blaster ? Good grief.

    I gotta ask...

I'm guessing that this 64bit version would NOT be wise to use without a 64bit processor?

I can't get to the FTP site you had for creative beta's. It wants a username and password. Any ideas?

I just emailed asking them. I am not expecting a positive response since tons of people have posted around saying creative told them they had no plans to even release 64bit driver versions. Was hoping you had a user id or could scarf the drivers

I have gotten so many bad responses from low level creative support folks that I ask for a support supervisor first thing when I call. The supervisors can get you set up or tell you correctly where to go or who specifically to email to get in beta program. Simply ask them for the beta signup and who to email or what extension to contact if on phone. If they say they cannot, tell them you are quite serious and want the support center manager on the phone, a supervisor can do that also or might be the overall support call-in center shift manager in reality.

You can;t just sign up for the beta program. I have to fill out a 7 page form and a Non-Disclosure doc and fax it back to them. I am basicaly gonna have to preteend to be a "developer" and say I am writing games or something.

(grin). Not a problem I can lie with a straight face. Especially when they can't see me laugh as I fax that sucker back to them.

If they ask, tell them you're porting Scorched Earth to 64-bit. :D
Don't forget to add TCP/IP multiplayer while you're at it.

Dude that is thier answer to everything. I have a montego card that there were no xp/2000 drivers, they said that they would never make drivers for it for that OS... So I ditched their cards altogether. Went with hercules then to sound storm..

For ATI video drivers, drop by http://www.planetamd64.com

They have some sound drivers, also. I've managed to scrounge everything to run all the hardware in my system on the old XP 64 build, so I'm hoping that they don't screw any of it up.

Also, if you look on the site, they have confirmed that they will include the XP64 version in the trade-in program. I've got a copy of XP Pro in 32 bit on the way....

Exactly. The best move I've seen in a while. It prompted me to upgrade from Win2000 Pro to Win XP Pro. Here's a link to a quote from the XP 64 bit program manager.
