External DIY RAID box; would you guys be interested in a review?

NewerTech wants us to review this unit:

It's review-and-return, which is a hassle sometimes; that said, I'll happily review it if the community is interested in it, but if no one is going to care, I won't bother.

Is anyone in the market for DIY external RAID boxes?

A lot of people would be. If I could afford something like that I would definitely be interested in this for storing my RAW files.

That's pretty slick. It'd be worth a comparison to how you could do yourself with your own SAN etc.

To note: I don't have enough hardware to do any comparisons with anything else.

Even on an economic viability basis would be great. Just a comparison to what it would take hardware cost wise to make something similar, then its up to the reader to determine if its worth it. I know I'd love to do something like this but my time tends to be a premium.

If you do review it, I'd be interested to know if it shuts drives down for power saving when not in use. If I were to own one of these (TBH, I probably wouldn't as long as I have cases that fit enough drives internally), I'd use it for regular backups or periodic video jobs, so I wouldn't want the drives making noise or sucking juice when they don't have to be.
