Quick! Right now! Do it! Do 10 push ups, or however many you can that you feel is not smalltime! Just do it, now! Go! Do it! Right in your cubicle/dorm/kitchen/anywhere, no questions asked! START!!!!
I for some reason have a hard time getting past 30, I will do 20-30 push ups 3-4 times a night for the last 3 months, but getting past 30 it just gets friggin hard, 40 is near impossible for me.
That's because you haven't built any additional muscle tissue to support the additional endurance required. Once you can do any strength-training exercise 8-10 times in a single set, you've gained all the benefit you're going to gain out of it--no new muscle will be built. Additional repetitions just test the endurance of your CNS and nothing more.

That's probably about 4 more than I could have done a year ago, so I guess that's something?
Feel free to try again any time and report back. With enough time you will be able to do 6, then 7 ..
Anybody else want to report in?
