I was able to get a group rate for a block of rooms at the lovely Motor City Casino. The rate would be $129 a night, and would be for the Deluxe King or Deluxe Double rooms. The rate also includes parking and internet.
The MCC is within walking distance of ICHQ Detroit, about half a mile up Trumbull. The free parking is secure and awesome, and I've been in the rooms—they are very swank.
It's an option for those who want to share a room. Four could fit comfortably if beds are shared, more if floor space is used.
People are certainly welcome to crash at ICHQ, but for Oktoberfest, we will only have ONE working shower. Please keep in mind that the house is still under renovation. MCC is a very close, very very nice option for those who wish to have a more comfortable place to crash for the night.
If you are interested in the MCC rooms, let me know, because I'll need to let them know.
What is the deadline for the hotel rooms? And ouch Detroit Casino Hotel's are expensive
Definitely please shoot us a deadline when you can because I'm not sure if the wife is coming (probably not because of school), but I'd still like to offer her the chance to think about it. Thanks for checking into this for us, Prime!
@Fatcat...$129 is an excellent deal for rooms such as those! At least compared to the ridiculousness of the prices in this area for fairly swank rooms that is
Safe if more than one person. Honestly, there are probably going to be homeless people along the route and you may get asked for money but they're harmless.
Brian, see if you can work out a deal with the Casino shuttle service. Those of us staying at hotel could pay a flat fee (group wise) or something to get shuttled to ICHQ in the morning/night
Those are all either too expensive or have super terrible reviews. Looks like it's going to be either an inflatable mattress or driving the extra 20 min. to LaQuinta back in Warren. :/
Also, maybe check out Hostel Detroit. Right now, all the Oktoberfest dates are available, and they're very cheap - $25 a night. It's also very close to ICHQ Detroit.
The hostel's not really an option. They have no private rooms, and certainly not private bathrooms. If I have to wait to shower, I'll do it at ICHQ.
I've looked at all the travel sites I know, and keep coming to the same conclusion, anything under $70/nigh closer to ICHQ2 than 20 min has disgustingly abhorrent reviews including horror stories of bedbugs and other nasty things. The Warren LaQuinta really is the closest acceptable hotel option if one's criteria are 'not gross' and 'under $70'.

I think I need to buy some of the properties near you, bulldoze them down and put up a hotel for future events
