From the sound of this, it might make me actually want to play TF2 again. But it is going to have to deliver if it is going to outshine L4D2, Minecraft, and Planetside 2.
"A Tour of Duty Ticket gives you access to Mann Up Mode, and can be purchased from the Mann Co. Store for $0.99. You do not need a Tour of Duty Ticket to play Mann vs. Machine on non-Mann Co. servers (i.e.: not in Mann Up Mode)."
I really hope this is a 1-time fee, although I doubt it. I am getting so sick of micro-transactions in every game these days.

If micro transactions are sure to lead to increased profits in games, then you must implement them!
Gaben said that, and I think he knows a little more about microtransactions than you do pal, because he invented them, and then he perfected them so that no company could best his in the ring known as the modern corporate world.
Q: What if I complete a Mission that I have already completed on my Tour of Duty Badge? In this case, your Tour of Duty Ticket will not be consumed, and your ToDB progress will not be updated. Squad Surplus Vouchers, however, will always be redeemed for items when a Mission is completed successfully.
Based on that Q/A it seems you pay 99 cents for each try, if you fail, you get another try. If you win, you will have to pay 99 cents again to have a go at another mission.
I have had one chance to play the co-op boot camp... Whats up with the long server wait... I wait wait wait, go afk for 5 mins, come back and I lost my chance to play again... A buck per tour, so much for TF2 being Free.

Long waits because only so many servers are available ... simple supply and demand, it will level off as more servers come up and people stop wanting to play it 24x7 like happens after every release. TF2 absolutely can be free, you choose to pay to get drops forced rather than waiting for random.
