I DL adaware and found i had crap loads of spyware on my comp. and also came to know that this one program was changing my home page to this certain search engine. i do a system scan and i thought adaware had deleted it but it didnt. apparently this one ad program aint that good. now i have norton anti-virus and firewall that came with my router should I use that?

    Tools --> Internet Options

    Change your homepage to www.msn.com or whatever it was.

    Try running HijackThis! - post a copy of the log here.

    Also, try the attached file. It is for removing CoolWebSearch (aka CoolWwwSearch, YouFindAll, White-Pages.ws and a dozen other names).

    Yes, you'll need the cocktail: CWShredder, HijackThis, and Spybot Search & Destroy

    I have an article about spyware removal coming shortly.....

    One spyware removal program is not known to remove 100 percent of spyware at this time. It takes a combination of several programs to be reasonably certain that all programs have been removed. Adaware, although a good program in its own right, is simply not good enough by itself to remove all elements of spyware. I would also download spybot search and destroy and maybe another one in addition to that. What one program may miss another one may identify correctly and remove.

    Thanks a lot, guys. I've been having a problem very similar to this one, with the added issue of getting roughly 50 popups an hour. These programs look to have isolated the problem. I'll let you know if anything develops for your article, Prime.

    If you're running WinXP, disable the "Messenger" service. A lot of them sneak in that way. :cool:

    Pop-up stoppers, get your free hot-roasted pop-up stoppers folks, just click here for your free hot-roasted pop-up stopper.

    Little nag screen when you boot up, but a great and easy to use, free pop-up stopper.

    I like toolbar.google.com, which blocks popups AND has built in google search!
