Is This a Power Supply Problem?

Ok... Im really angry right now so I don't know how this post will sound, hehe.

I just got my RMA back from Western Digital for a new WD800JB drive. It works fine and all is fine and dandy. I was trying to delete my partition on the old drive so I could send it back and had forgotten how to do it.

I finally got a copy of FDISK and put it on a floppy. I unhooked the new drive and hooked up the old one. I got rid of the partition using FDISK and then went back to putting my new drive back in.

I hooked everything back up and started my computer... It started to boot and go to the Intel P4 HT logo and then my rear fan (60mm which is hooked to my Nexus fan controller slowed... and turned off, but my 80MM TT Smart Fan 2 which is also connected to the controller went on full blast!... then my computer turned off. I tried to switch it back on and it wouldn't power on... I turned off the psu, then turned it back on and it booted, but now, the last 3-4 times Ive booted up, my fans start up fine but the one slows down and stops and the other goes on full blast... I have a Raidmax 350W psu and I'm powering the following...

All of the basic stuff... floppy, mobo (and all that needs power on that, CPU, Nbridge fan etc...) then I have my FX5900, 1 DVD-RW drive, 1 CD-RW drive, Dual CCFL's, and ... several fans (2 of which are connected to my Nexus NP201 which is also powered by the PSU (obviously).

Can someone honestly tell me if 350W is or isn't enough for all of this... I've had this setup running for about a month and a half now and it has done this several times but for the most part everything works fine...

I have no money atm... but my dad might pitch in and buy a psu but it can't be over 100 bucks... I have the option of CompUSA or Allied PSU's pretty much...

Actually, I think the problem may be due to the fan controller, not the power supply.

    That being said:
350w would be sufficient if it were a decent power supply. Check the voltages with a multimeter and see what they're like.

Alrighty... I'll try hooking up both fans to a regular link on the PSU and see what happens...

Ok... I took all the fans off the controller but left the controller powered because it looks cool :P ... I also decided to take off the chrome wire covers... Maybe the fact that they were touching something they shouldn't have been touching was causing a power down/off.

Everything is fine for now so maybe I'll just get some quieter fans or ones that are manually controllable (like the Smart Fan 2).

Does anyone know of a good 60mm fan that is really quiet and maybe controllable???

There are no 60mm fans with built in manual fan speed control, to the best of my knowledge. If you can talk your dad into it, I'd get a new case or just modify yor existing one. Those Raidmax cases with the single 60mm exhaust fans are a joke.

You could build your own fan speed controller, or get a thermally controlled fan, though.

...My dad is an engineer... Im sure we could put together a fan controller :)

Thanks for the tips and such!

No problem. It wouldn't be a big deal. Just go to radio shack, pick up an LM-317T adjustable positive voltage regulator, and the stuff it lists on the back of the package to complete the circuit, a heatsink for it, and a board to put it all on, and you'll be set.
