I'm pretty sure everyone is gonna be okay with people grouping up for games early. The spirit of the law. I think it will be few and far between to those true constitutionalists (google says that is spelled wrong but fuck 'em) who will follow the letter.
Will DD with peeps even though I'm already over hours. Suck it.

I'm down with basically anything multiplayer (nb4/takei), so feel free to shoot me a Steam message. Haven't tried Alien Swarm or DD yet, but I think they're on my list.

I would agree with this, some games are designed multiplayer first with single player as doable. For me the games would be: Borderlands 1+2, Forge, Garry's Mod, Sanctum, & Serious Sam 3.
@Midga Hit me up when you get to DD I love that game and wouldn't mind runnin' you through it. It's definitely more fun with other people and a lot easier than solo. I still have to finish the DLC anyway.

I've learned that this is a paradoxical cure for Game Blocks. I feel extremely bored with most everything I have access to outside of the backlog, despite much of it not being done either. Fire Emblem is like 3 missions away from being done, has daily events, and I'm ignoring it. However I do want to play certain games but they are in the backlog. So I'm in Game Block but I'm also not.

Edit: After some thought, I see this is a delayed repercussion of continuing to buy games after joining the backlog.

Here's a question: Up till when do recent purchases count for this? Does Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag (as an example for a much farther release date) count?

Anything you add to your steam library before you have finished the challenge counts. But if others gift things to you, they do not count unless you wish them to.
If it was part of your backlog when this competition started, it counts.

It adds a new level to shopping. "Should I buy this now at 50% off, even though I can't play it till MUCH later on due to it starting with S, or should I wait till it would be time to play it or close and see what deal I can get then." I know it will stop and make me think for a bit. I'll likely still buy the game in question anyways.
I mean, again, I've taken this loosely while others are choosing to be more rigid. If I buy a brand new game, I'm gonna play it no matter where it lies. If I buy a game 50% off to play with friends, I'm gonna do it. 50% off single player ... maybe now, maybe later.
I've considered playing that way (finish new game first, then go back to backlog), but I wasn't sure if that would disqualify me. I've been waiting almost a month to play Brutal Legend and to buy Euro Truck Simulator 2.

The prizes are the "I will cut a bitch for a Gold Star" badges, and getting your money's worth out of the games that have been sitting in your library unplayed and possibly not even installed, right? Forget the latter though, that badges are the sole motivation!
I'm stalled at Alan Wake because no time :/ Being one of the worst offenders, if I get through this backlog, I expect a special badge that always gives me one badge point more than the person in second place
I'm stalled at Anodyne because it sucks and I'm bored to shit with it. I'll plow through eventually. Also lol job. The only game I play is TF2 and Etrian Odyssey (pooping)
I'm still on Arma 2. I can't really get interested in it. I'll go into detail once I finish the game.
Also, I keep buying games, especially now that the Steam Summer sale is going on. I'm developing a second backlog and playing it alongside my original backlog. Eventually I hope to finish both(along with my console backlog). It'll probably be another 2-4 years before that happens though.
If you backlog doesn't take you a full year of serious play it isn't a backlog, that is called a weekend.

Had no problems with Borderlands. Borderlands 2 though, my bros wanted me to play with them so I'd have to stall so I wouldn't level past them. Then one wouldn't be in the mood or would be busy and the other had his save corrupted or some bull and lost ti and didn't want to restart. Eventually I just made another character to go at my own pace. Been taking my sweet time with it. Mostly because work, and Monster Hunter 3U cameout which is just far more appealing.
Also, sweet Digi Emote.
@primesuspect I'm sorry you don't like it. On the bright side it will only take you about 3 1/2 to 4 hours to complete.

I'm on Half Life 2: Episode 2, and I'm kind of stuck on it because I got to a part that makes my heart race, and I am afraid of it. Also Trucks.
