I'm currently looking for a new PSU and I've come across this one @ newegg...

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=17-163-017&depa=0

Does anyone have experience with this brand? Is it reliable? Should I spend the extra money and get an Enermax or Antec? I'll be ordering tonight or tomorrow.

TIA,

Jeff

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT Get that power supply. I bought the "Silence Blue" PS, which is rated 550w and is in the same chassis, to use as a bench power supply. I was testing it using some peltiers, fans, resistors, etc. I had sitting around, so I wasn't risking any of my computer components (except 3 SCSI HDs...)... the PS crapped out at less than 300w.

DO NOT get that power supply.

Yeah, spend the extra money. Consider a PC Power & Cooling or a Channel Well Technology PSU -- the Channel Wells can be gotten from http://www.just4pc.com/ or http://www.justpc.com/ (I have both go through, think site name might be in process of being changed-- company name is JustPC.). Tiger Direct is one of their distributors, but they want too much for shipping. Look at the Channel Well 480 Watter in Aluminum case, it is not best of best but is not that high priced for what it is either.

Antec or Enermax is plenty for the job, no need to look into PC P&C

Al, Antec or Enermax would be fine, but PC Power & Cooling is still far superior to either; they are irrefuteably the best power supplies available.

Unfortunately, they also cost an arm and a leg.

An Antec, Enermax, or PC Power & Cooling PS would all be ideal.

You might also look at MediaMan's article on PSUs. The aluminum case 480 Channel Well is a A series Channel Well Tech PSU. The OEM is a B series. I got and did a spec comparison to tell this for sure. Not all those specs are on the web NOW, but they were there when I looked-- JustPC is reworking their website, but I was able to web check and then phoned them and they confirmed this for me. They are the only US direct importer I know of for Channel Well at this time.

I've got the True Blue version of that PSU and it's pretty nice, it even has a four pin molex connector on the back of the PSU for running or testing things without needing to open your case, very nice feature.
