Cardboard. Box. I will never not giggle like a moron as I run around inside a cardboard box. It is unironically one of my favorite things about the whole damn MGS series.
Also, I bought a PS1/2 memory card reader for my PS3... does anyone know offhand if I can import my saves and use them with the compilation PS3 games? Is it a case-by-case basis or is there some sort of overarching support for them?
Because the games were not released in chronological order they were written to accommodate that. For example there are things about Ocelot's past that are revealed in MGS3 which the player is not meant to know during the events of MGS1 and MGS2. It doesn't exactly ruin anything to know about that during 1 and 2 but it's a lot more surprising to learn it afterwards. It also helps to understand Ocelot's goals and motivations during MGS4 if you go straight from 3 into 4 without having 2 games worth of content between them, it keeps it fresh in your mind. Also there is a lot you learn from Volgin at the end of 3 that would absolutely destroy the big revelation during the last part of 2. It would be like Darth Vader telling you that he's Luke and Leia's dad during the very first scene you see him in Star Wars episode 4.
You just make an image of your memory card then mount it in one of the virtual memory card slots. Bingo, MGS 1 will read it. Let me pick up my MGS1 game right where I left off (at the Metal Gear Rex fight). I was quite stoked.
I've never completed a MGS game. Every single one I hit a choke point, and though I am totally enjoying the game up until that point, it becomes so infuriating that I just give up and never see it the rest of the way through.

In order of the trilogy guys!
But why not? That's the exact order.. makes no sense not to.
Now I just need IRL friends.
Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid 4 (again). Let's do some learnin'.
MGS 1 is included as a download code. Awesome thing about it, however, is that you can import your save games for MGS 1 from a PS1 memory card, if you have a USB memory card reader. I used this one, which seems to be unavailable at the moment: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008ATJ59K/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
