I read this and thought "Why would they be building the crumby ass neighborhood that my house is in?". I assume there's a different Chuchill Downs you're referring to though...

Yes, Churchill Downs is the track where the Kentucky Derby is held.
I'm not sure I understand the point of carpets. Can't you just put down a red cube of wool if you want a red carpet? Or does it have an edge above the other blocks or something?
1. Use with pistons. A piston can push a carpet and that carpet will push whatever is on the other side of it. A player can walk right over that at any time. This can not be done with a piece of wool.
2. Fire. Get the same effect as a wool floor with stone+carpet and the entire floor can't burn. (I have not tested if carpets burn yet)
3. Hoppers. You can place a carpet on top of a hopper and it will still accept items through the carpet.
Actualy Ardi the current crafting recipie is just that, 2 wool = 1 carpet. This is just a snapshot though and I would bet that in release the recipie will give us 2+.
Looking into it the Zombie spawning another Zombie feature is far from complete and is intended for Zombies spawning in caves.
Carpets now give 3 carpets per 2 blocks of wool.

I wonder how the zombie spawning other zombies will work with a zombie grinder. Even a small chance of a spawn can be amplified by killing 200+ zombies with one potion.

*No I'm not.
Note this has nothing to do with 1.6
Will update with details when I have a chance. Reddit is freakin out on me at work currently.
