How are you trying to format? The easiest way would be to let the XP installation format the drive. If that doesn't work, you could try booting to a Windows 9x boot floppy, use fdisk to wipe the drive, then try the XP install.

I tried c: format /fs:fat32 but no luck.

FDISK how can I use this..

because the os is in Japanese it will not allow me to proceed and will not accept the OEM Product key..

Download a Windows 98 boot floppy image from www.bootdisk.com. Start it up, when you get to the command prompt, type in fdisk. You're going to delete the partition, then recreate it. This guide should offer some help on how to do it.

XP will let you format when you install it. You get the option after you select which partition you want to install to. Select NTFS (Quick) if you want to do it faster.

Okay, are you booting off the XP CD? Or are you sticking the Windows XP CD in while MCE is running?

You need to boot off the XP CD, and let it format the HD during installation.
