New version of MyDoom appears

edited February 2004 in Science & Tech
A new version of the MyDoom e-mail virus was discovered Monday, and it has fixed a few bugs over that of the original. Joy.

[blockquote]MyDoom.C both refines and tames the earlier version of the virus, known as MyDoom.A. Among other changes, the new virus fixes problems with the original MyDoom e-mail worm, including errors in the worm's code that made it impossible for many MyDoom-infected machines to launch a programmed denial of service (DoS) attack against The SCO Group Inc.'s Web site, www.sco.com. Gone also is the expiration date that told machines infected with the original MyDoom virus to stop their DoS attack on February 12, 2004, LURHQ said.

One other fairly GOOD thing about it. It spreads on boxes infected with MyDoom.a and\or MyDoom.b using TCP port 3127.

Since Microsoft wants MyDoom.c, aka "Doomjuice," killed, they released on Technet a link to a killer for MyDoom.a through MyDoom.c. I'm gonna play "find the killer" and give you a link to it.... Got it.... :D

ADDED: Since Microsoft's site is very busy, below is one that should not be, and link is for F-Secure's mydoom remover, which detects MyDoom.c as MyDoom.a and kills it too (kills Mydoom.a through mydoom.c).

Unfortunately, the problem is that the majority of people a) don't know they're infected, and b) don't know about downloading fixes.
