Expo 2014 Wine Tasting!
Okay, the wine tasting is a go!
This year, we are going to be sampling Chenin Blanc. Also known as Vouvray or Steen, this often overlooked white wine pairs well with a number of different cuisines. Chenin Blancs vary in sweetness considerably, but all of them retain a bright acidity and lots of fruity notes. If you struggle to pair food and wine together, get to know this grape because it will help take a lot of the guesswork in that arena!
I'd like to keep this at around 10-14 people (which will keep the price around $30 or (hopefully) less. If there is a lot of interest, we can double the fun and get 20-25 good Icrontians in on the fun!
Please comment 'in' on the post below, which will reserve you a seat. The wine tasting will likely be at 8:00 pm Thursday as Lincoln indicated.
Let the wining begin!

Hey, guess what? there's now an open seat at the wine tasting!
Happy Expo Eve Eve! As it stands, it's going to be $29 per head for 8 wines, 2 oz pours, plus delicious noms! If we can get a few more people to sign up, I can get the price down a bit more, so encourage your fancy, yet reluctant friends to join us!
P.S. @lershee, I will have a separate price for you!

Thank you all so much for coming! I had a really fun time hosting it and I hoped you all got to try something new! Here's the cookie recipe:
Jan Hagel Cookies
1 C. butter
1 C. sugar
1 egg, separated
2 C. flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 Tblspn water
1/2 C. chopped nuts (my mother used pecans, but walnuts and almonds are good, too)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Beat together 1 C. butter and 1 C. white sugar in a bowl. Add 1 egg yolk and blend together.
In another bowl, mix together 2 C. flour and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon.
Mix the egg white together with the water until frothy and set aside.
Blend the flour mixture into the butter mixture (it will be a crumbly) and pat unto the bottom of a greased jelly roll (10"x15" pan).
Brush or pat the egg white/water mixture on top of the dough and then pat on the nuts/pressing lightly. (You can sprinkle on additional sugar at this step if you'd like, but we never bothered with that.) Bake for 20-25 minutes until just beginning to brown.
Cut immediately into squares, diamonds or oblong shapes. Makes about 4 dozen (depending on how large or small you cut them.)
