Kwitko,
So happy you enjoyed Belle Isle. It's one of our gems that is often neglected and overlooked.
Cliff,
Thanks for pointing out the Henry Ford Museum (and Greenfield Village). There is a ton to see there.
Thanks Ryan!
I'm so glad that you guys are excited about Marvin's. As I said, it's not high-tech but I'd still plan on bringing a roll of quarters! Added bonus: Marvin's has free wifi.
Expo = Marvin's trip. I don't even care. Happening.
Becks, thanks so much for posting this. I also agree that Belle is a tremendous (and underused / under-appreciated) asset to the city. If I won the lottery, the Conservatory would get a fat check.
I love this... I should have asked you for some advice when I was writing what to do for the NCAA Final Four. I am glad I linked to your blog. I linked to some things but you have a lot of stuff I never would have even thought of.
I have never left the City to live. You rock Becks!
GREAT PIECE! Love it! Just got to run the Cut when I was up in March, beautiful art. How do you get to Eastern Market once you reach the end of the Cut?
I used to live close by to Marvins. Its basically an arcade museum (all the machines work and can be used by the public) along with lots of oddities from the 19th and 20th century. Alot of the old machines are pretty creepy/fun in what they depict. If I remember correctly, they had a couple of those old "moving picture machines" from the turn of the last century that played about 15 seconds of video. One of which depicted a woman taking off her shoes showing her bare feet, which was considered softcore porn back in its day.
A few TV shows were made about this place a while back. Its worth checking out.

When I was in Detroit I got a chance to check out the Henry Ford Museum. Scroll down for pics.

So true! But Marvins? Shit yes, I'm in.
I used to work in Farmington Hills and just kind of drove past it one day and wondered what the hell it was.
It's almost as cool as the Musee Mecanique, only just a little smaller and not 2000+ miles away:
