Well, with multiple entries allowed, I'll submit an updated mosaic; with more avatars this time! See if you can find yours, and if you can't, well, another more updated one will be created. And with this one, it's actually desktop-backgroundable (as in, it's not hideous to have as your wallpaper.)
Its so damn easy to write a program that will do this for you!
It just loads a big picture
Loads small pictures and reduces them to 32x32
calculate its average color of every 16x16 block on the smaller pics.
Look at every 32x32 block on the big picture and calculate the average color of every 16x16 block.
Compare 32x32 block of the big picture to every smaller one.
Find a closest match.
Put it in place.
For a 5760x1080 picture there are 18,680,625 operations per avatar. for 1000 avatars the program would execute in 1,5567875 seconds on a X4 3.0 GHz processor.
All numbers are approximations.
I still wouldnt put something so pixelated as my background, ya gettin it Krab? Try makin' it smoother, im sure it would look EPIC!
Speediakal, with unlimited submissions, I suggest nixing the kitties and submitting one without them. With this you would secure my vote in the Popular vote.
Everybody, please keep in mind that the rules clearly state you must own the artwork you are submitting; you must be the photographer if you use any photographs, etc.
Nice one Usama, but when i zoom in the photo to see it like i would if that was my background, there is lots of blurring and some random irregularities across the image. The idea is amazing tho
alright finally i just made another Entry for the Contest..totally from scratch..took me alot of time cuz of my slow processor (1.6 Atom)
anyway..hope u like it..
here are the two finals..
