Larvitar Community Day is this Saturday. Long story short, if you play it right, you will be spoon fed the most powerful, current meta relevant Pokemon in the game. You even have a great chance at finding a shiny!
Catch all the Larvitars and evolve a good one into a Tyranitar before the event ends to get Smack Down as his Fast Move.
I've been saving my GeneralKeebler candies so I can evolve my Keebs into a Linc. If I evolve him during ICOK, there's an increased chance of getting the shiny Luigi variant.
The GeneralKeebler is actually a 3-stage evolution. "Matt" is the middle step, and "Linc" is the final form. He evolves into the final form when exposed to the Vanilla Stone.
Damn. That's alot of Pokestops in one area. I forgot to evolve my Tyranitar during the event, but it was still fun getting out to a local park walking around. There were probably 20 people or so walking around. Not bad when it was 95 degrees out.
That was AWESOME... hot too. About 15 Pokestops and 8 gyms all within 0.9 miles. All lured too. I ended up capturing 109 Larvitars in the 3 hours. Ended up with 4 that were about 85% and one shiny.
Honestly never thought I would see the day. Oh man. A lot to take in. Looks interesting. Things I noticed first time through:
-easy to add friends
-must be within 100 meters to trade
-Trading costs stardust and earns candy
-1,000,000 stardust to trade a Lugia with someone you just met.
-stats re-roll on trade (kills IV black market)
-Special trades such as legendaries and shines limited to once a day.
-New gifts that could contain Alolan forms.
Going to be awesome to see how all this pans out, would love to help peeps fill their Pokedex.
The rerolls mean you could give away your crappiest ones and maybe they'd be better for your friends (as long as they are your "best friends") lol
There's also a difference in those screenshots - the new friend is 1mil but the "best friend" is only 40k dust for the same trade.
Higher candy rewards for trades the farther away your Pokemon was caught; sounds like a great opportunity for those of us flying/driving in for Expo from other states/countries...

I just want to say that the Pokemon Go Plus is the biggest piece of shit.
10:1 odds it won't pair to my phone.
20:1 odds it won't successfully reconnect if disconnected (either through 60-minute timeout, distance, or manual disconnect).
50:1 odds of successfully detecting a Pokestop I'm standing next to for several minutes.
Has never detected a Pokemon successfully.
Has never tracked distance successfully.
Has a fresh battery. New unit. My phone meets all the technical requirements.
The best advice I've gotten so far is to clear the phone's Bluetooth cache and attempt to pair from within Pokemon Go, not through your phone's Bluetooth settings.

2nd to that, I added an item recommendation above and in the OP.

PS: smackdown was nerfed.
While true, it changes very little. Smacks Down / Stone Edge T-tar went from 18% better than Golem to 16% better.

Wait... Pokemon coopted Reptar? wtf is even happening.
This Saturday night only: Quailmanilous, which evolves from the elusive Jackbanditaur.

omg rob
Linc: this isn't even my final form
I'm disappointed there are no lucky eggs in the Ultra Box, and the Great Box has normal instead of super incubators. :-(
Also there will be Community Day Boxes tomorrow. Waiting to see what's in em. Often balls and pinap berries.
Looks like they're out. I personally think they're a better option, more tailored to what you need on Community Day. Cheaper, too.

Update: I'll be 32 for the event

I got to participate a little but not enough to get enough candies to evolve a Tyranitar. I did get one Wonder and one shiny though
Just in time!

I understand all the "muh game mechanics" reasons why, but the astronomic stardust cost(s) and the IV rerolls really suck.
I dunno, I don't think friends ask friends to spend a million stardust on them.
Of COURSE they put in pokemon trading right after I brutally cull my inventory.

LETS FRIEND UP!
waits for update to roll out
And then we should all be best friends by ICOK.
Looks like it's time for Digi to get a Mime
My Stardust is ready.

With the base game being so glitchy, unfortunately I'm not surprised their accessory is also a mess.

Done this a hundred times. So flaky.
