Halo 2 Goes Gold

Bungie has announced that Halo 2 has gone gold today.

They said it couldn’t be done! Actually, they didn’t say that, but if they had, we’d have proved them all (the fake people who didn’t say anything) wrong! Halo 2 has gone gold. We finished every line of code, every pixel of art, every frame of animation, every phoneme of dialog and every note of music. We finished it when we said we would (when it was done) and shipped that baby right on time to make its November launch date. And we’re kinda proud of it. We think it’s “fun.” “Gone Gold” is a somewhat archaic expression, since the “gold discs” are actually digital tapes and eventually silver discs. But it certainly feels golden. This basically means that the game has been shipped to retail manufacture. Somewhere in the world, a gigantic DVD pressing factory has started making Xbox game discs with the utterly complete version of Halo 2. Maybe there IS a gold disc somewhere. Perhaps it’s time for an epic quest!

I played XBoX for one thing: Knights of the Old Republic. The instant it hit the PC, I abandoned my friend's XBoX.

I would gladly play Halo 2 if it came to the PC without being slower than molasses in winter in both delivery scheduling and performance.

As I've said many times before, I'm definitely a console gamer. It's just how I got into gaming, and I enjoy it much more.

Though I'm not going to try to push it on anybody. It's your choice. I don't know if I can make it another 28 days though. Aaaahhhh!!

15 Oct 2004 ~ 1:21pm Unregistered I e-mailed one of the guys at bungie and asked if it were coming out for P.C. He didn't mail back But if someone knew how to port Halo 2 to the P.C. then buy the disk AND PORT IT so you can play it on p.c. also XBox live is expensive and well I don't like aiming with a Control stick it's just that mouses work better. INTERNET IS CHEAP ON PCS!

15 Oct 2004 ~ 1:30pm Cyclonite I'm sure they get that question many times a day. That's probably why they won't answer. Also, no single person is going to be able to "port" the game to PC. That takes code changes, which means Bungie would have to do it. Look around the internet for your question. If you can't find a definite answer, that means there probably isn't one yet.
21 Oct 2004 ~ 5:52am Fig Well since Halo 2 is created for Xbox which uses DirectX, then porting it to PC should be a doddle most games are made using it or openGL.
I'm sure microsoft will squeeze every penny out of it and at present they recently relased an update to Halo for PC. I think believe they want to bask in the glory a bit before having to work hard at porting what is going to be a succesful game i'm sure

24 Oct 2004 ~ 10:37am Slayer Halo2 won't come out on the pc until they've sold every possible xbox and game they can. Than when the money runs out on that...presto, all of a sudden it's coming to the pc! They make twice the money that way. After all...who would buy an xbox if they knew they could get it for the pc in a little while?

the only reson halo looks better on the xbox then the pc was that bill gates and co. asked Bungie to downgrade halo for pc
2 Nov 2004 ~ 9:18am Micks109 also for those who know the xbox all ready has a dvd player in it. all the card does (the one u have to buy) is tell the xbox that there is a card there and compleat the circuit to allow the dvd player to turn on. what this means is that a card that has 3 pins on it is what u are being charged for.

about the bad marketing that microsoft does i found that in a mag called "micro mart" with the dvd player that is common sense

but really as consols can't be up graded (faster ram) the games can only go so far. also they are small pcs (small that an understatment for the xbox)

9 Nov 2004 ~ 11:06am Cyclonite You've just told me that a friend told you something. I'm a little unclear as to what you said. Seemed like consoles can't be upgraded. That's pretty much how it's always been. They get their maximum usage: as the games progress and the console gets further along in its life, everything tends to get better until the hardware just can't handle anymore. This is when they release a new console. Not that the life of a console is short in the least. I still have a SNES that I play, and many gamers still own original consoles from ages ago.

Also, the DVD thing was to avoid the necessary fees. Microsoft would have to pay a royalty type fee for every XBox sold if they were capable out of the box of playing DVDs. This fee would be passed on to the consumer, rasing the price another $20-$30 easily. This doesn't look appealling when you're competing against two other consoles, both of which released cheaper than your console. The fee is included in the purchase of the DVD remote. I think they made a smart move in doing it, because it saved me -and I'm sure many others- $20-$30. I have a DVD player already. No need for the remote.

9 Nov 2004 ~ 1:33pm Techbyte I have both a PC and Xbox. I own halo for PC and have enjoyed playing it without any problems. I play online for about an hour a day. I understand that Xbox live is a monthly fee. I will stick with pc games for the most part. I like the use of my broadband over pay a second time for internet connection. I have decided to wait for Halo 2 on PC. I spend several hours on a pc and maybe 1 hour a week on xbox. My first console was the Atari 2600, they come and go. But my computer hardware is always updated every two years. I can afford to wait for Halo2 on PC. It means another company besides Microsoft gets money. I get to check out other games and enjoy them. I belive Microsoft will release H2 for PC in a year or so. So Xbox'rs enjoy. But, pc'rs there are hundreds of games that xbox does not have. Let's go enjoy them also.

You have to pay royalty fees on most any patented standard when you use it. That's how the guy/girl/group who was smart enough and took the time to develop such a technology makes his/her/their money from it.

And, yes. We all know that Microsoft loses money on their consoles. They've lost money on them from the beginning, so they could keep up with the Gamecube and PS2 prices. They make up for this in the price of their games and accessories.

Now, let me make myself perfectly clear. I have NOTHING against PCs. In fact, I have a pretty nice one that I play games on frequently. I also own a PS2 and Gamecube, so I'm not specific to the XBox either. The reason I'm arguing these points with you is that you're saying things, but presenting no proof. It's nothing against you either. I just can't stand when something gets bashed without knowledge of the subject.
