The indie gaming industry has an unparalleled love of novel sales tactics, with countless bundles, giveaways and offers across the last few years alone. But now, 2D Boy, the grand-daddy of the pay-what-you-want format is back with a new type of sale—and they’ve brought friends.
Because We May is a week-long mass discount on multiple independent developers games, across multiple platforms, all with the goal of promoting the right of developers to set their own price for their product—in their own words; “we believe that developers should have the freedom to price their games how they like, without interference from the online stores that sell the games.” And so, to promote both their own games and celebrate the storefronts that do allow developers this courtesy, a select group of indie game producers will be discounting their wares from now until the 1st June.
The games on offer are all listed on the Because We May website, where customers can browse the complete catalogue of discounted games across all participating vendors including Steam, the App stores, Google Play, Desura and the Xbox marketplace, to name but a few, or narrow their search to a specific platform before being forwarded to the relevant storefront to complete the purchase of their chosen item.
There’s no shortage of recognisable names, with the likes of Osmos, Eufloria, and Braid not to mention the entire catalogues of DoubleFine and Introversion available—but it’s unlikely you’ll see any PC titles here that haven’t been just as cheap on a Steam sale or bundle offer before. Much more interesting than the PC games is the opportunity to pick up discounted mobile and/or tablet titles, including the portable ports of games like Cogs or EDGE, which just flat out work better on a touchscreen device.
So don’t miss out—have a browse through the games on offer and treat yourself to some of the finest in indie gaming—now on your handheld.
