Holding your breath for a video game release has always been a bad idea, because the release dates that are first announced usually slip at least once. Normally the hope is that the team simply needs more time to get their product up to their quality standards, but the big fear is that development is being put on hold indefinitely because of monetary reasons.
With regards to Bioshock Infinite, they are delaying to make the game better, pushing quite a bit back to February 26th, 2013. The team developing Infinite is the same team that brought us the original Bioshock, and they said they need more time to make the game at least as fantastic as Bioshock. They had a similar delay with the original, to add more to the environment, fix character motions, and rebuild the Big Daddies into those cuddly creatures everyone loves.
The Bioshock story line really captured me. When I reached the end, I felt happy that my character was given a conclusive ending to the plot. After the experience of Bioshock 2, I am hoping the extra time generates a game that brings together an experience that causes everyone to crave more.
