Crytek’s latest release is a little different…

Fibble Feature

One of these things is not like the other...

Crytek is a name familiar to every PC gamer—and for good reason. Between Far Cry redefining the first person shooter and Crysis forever altering our expectations of video game graphics, Crytek’s portfolio has earned them a reputation for producing some top notch FPS games—which makes their latest effort something of a surprise.

Rather than another grim, serious shooter, Fibble – Flick ‘n’ Roll is an unashamedly cutesy, casual game marking a complete 180° in Crytek’s target demographic. A fairly straightforward physics-based puzzler at heart, only the visuals betray Fibble’s parentage. It’s clear more than a little work went into Crytek’s mobile gaming debut, but in the hyper-competitive App Store, will above average graphics be enough to set it apart?

Coming hot on the heels of Rovio’s buyout of Futuremark Game Studio, it looks like something of a trend could be emerging—with the makers of ‘hardcore’ games like Shattered Horizon and Crysis now scrabbling to find a place in the mobile arena. Is this a symptom of a tectonic shift in the focus of the games industry as a whole, or just another developer attempting to cash in on this ‘App Store’ they’ve heard so much about?

Fibble – Flick ‘n’ Roll is available now for iPhone and iPad, with an Android version still in the works.
