Lauren Faust artwork for DC Nation revealed

A few months ago, I told you about Lauren Faust’s upcoming project for Cartoon Network, in which she’ll be producing a series of shorts for the DC Nation—a block of DC comics-oriented programming which will begin this spring with the introduction of several new shows. At the time, all we had was the title: Super Best Friends Forever; the concept: the comical adventures of Supergirl, Wondergirl, and Batgirl; and a fuzzy image of the Supergirl art taken from a video of a PowerPoint presentation.

Since then, we’ve learned very little, but this week’s TV Guide ran a full-page story on DC Nation’s shorts, which gives us art for each of the main characters, as well as some additional details from Faust herself.

The unfortunate news is that it’s not, as I originally thought, going to be 10-15 minute episodes. Each short will run between one and two minutes, and will be used between segments of other shows. According to Faust it “has plenty of action and fighting, but is really much more focused on comedy and laughs and how much fun it is to be a superhero. It’s like taking a teenage experience but putting a superhero spin on it: in one episode, Supergirl and Batgirl try to convince Wonder Girl to sneak out in Wonder Woman’s invisible jet to go for a joyride.”

DC Nation, slated to run for at least three years on Cartoon Network, will debut in spring 2012 with Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series. And Beware the Batman will be replacing Brave and the Bold as Warner’s animated Batman series in 2013.

Here’s the latest trailer for the programming block:

  1. UPSLynx
UPSLynx DC Nation is a great lineup. I don't care for the Green Lantern series, but Young Justice looks great, and I can't wait to see new Teen Titans shorts.
  2. GHoosdum
GHoosdum Yep. Looks like Faust's art.
  3. BuddyJ
    BuddyJ Batgirl is best hero.
