First it was the Super Alloy Choke. Now, Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) has announced their newest advancement in durable motherboard components with the introduction of their Hyper Alloy Chokes.

So golden!

The gold-plated Hyper Alloy Chokes are intended to be more resistant to corrosion and oxidation. They are also supposedly more energy efficient and reduce electromagnetic interference. Without knowing exactly what makes a hyper alloy “hyper”, we’re left to ask the electrochemists their educated opinion.

One thing that can be proven is that compared to standard chokes, the Hyper Alloy chokes are more heat resistant and tolerate a wider range of temperatures. Their energy efficiency is higher—ECS claims 30% better than industry standard chokes.

All of this adds up to a vital component more able to stand up to the extra power and heat generated while overclocking, leading to a more stable motherboard and longer lasting parts.

The ECS Z77H2-A4 will be the first motherboard to feature the new chokes. Interestingly, this board is neither a Golden Board or a Black Series board, so perhaps these chokes will become a new standard. Other, currently unspecified, ECS motherboards will start using the new chokes as well.

A release date for the Hyper Alloy Choke’s debut on ECS Z77H2-A4 has not yet been disclosed, nor has the motherboard’s price.
