Klei Entertainment, makers of the cutesy indie puzzler Eets and the brutal beat-em-up series of Shank games has just announced a new project—Mark of the Ninja.
Fittingly mysterious, Mark of the Ninja was announced with just a single poster image and a link, but anyone intrigued enough to visit markoftheninja.com will find themselves in an online version of a classic choose-your-own-adventure novel. Making the right decisions in guiding the ninja protagonist on his mission rewards the player with a short clip demonstrating some of the ninja tools from the introductory story in the game itself as well as disclosing its planned summer 2012 release.
Stealth games, or more frequently arbitrary stealth sections in regular games, are often poorly executed and frequently frustrating, but if done right Klei really could be on to something great here. They’ve proven themselves more than capable of producing top notch games in the past and definitely seem to be playing to their strengths by keeping this one a 2D platformer with their fantastic, heavily stylized comic book aesthetic. This is definitely one to keep an eye on.
