Google Apps Marketplace: Google’s new app store

Google today announced the Google Apps Marketplace, a centralized app store that allows developers to publish applications that integrate with Google Apps and sell them to more than 2 million businesses.

“The Google Apps Marketplace offers products and services designed for Google users, including installable apps that integrate directly with Google Apps,” Google says of its new service. “Installable apps are easy to use because they include single sign-on, Google’s universal navigation, and some even include features that integrate with your domain’s data.”

In exchange for a 20% share of the revenue, Google says, a developer’s application will be given a streamlined purchase and installation process, as well as presentation to the millions of Google users that use Google Apps every day.

Google also notes that the company is working on a new payment system that enables users to purchase applications via their existing Checkout account. The new system will also automatically handle the Marketplace’s revenue sharing.

In all more than 50 developers have already signed on to integrate their applications with Google Apps via the Marketplace. Users interested in seeing what apps are available can now access the Google Marketplace.
